There was literally nothing there. The place looked completely abandoned. A sign at the entrance indicated there was a fee, but there were no other signs anywhere and not a single person in sight.

This is where slave trade started, it’s all very basic and not commercial. But it is a must see reminder of the bad times that formed the community today

Betty’s Hope is packed with history. They have restored the mill a few times and continue to excavate this area. To know about the sugar plantations, making molasses and rum all integral to Antigua.

The place is small but it allows you to enjoy a beautiful natural setting of Antigua's inner land. A place to definitely visit in order to learn about the island history and to see its beauty.

Small museum and historic windmill on the site of a sugar plantation. Shame they do not have more funds to invest in the museum as the history of the place is fascinating. Worth a visit if you are interested in history.

Wonderful short stop at Betty’s Hope - a great way to lose yourself in history of the Island and get to know how it developed from plantations to current times.

Betty's Hope is the remains of a sugar mill from the days of slavery. There is one well-preserved windmill and another less so. There is a museum but it was closed when we visited so we could not comment about it. It is on a...More
