Parking for this hike is close to Big Meadows, very popular so the lot was almost full. Easy hike down to the falls, with a stream on your right the entire way. We were shielded from the rain by the dense canopy overhead; do wear...More

stunning walk down to the waterfall.... challenging though on the way up but this went as soon as we say a mum and 2 bear cubs and followed them up stream for around 20 mins , definitely the highlight of the drive and so thrilled...More

A must trail to hike when in Shenandoah National Park. Very crowded. Took away from the natural beauty for us. Too many people hiking down the steep decline wearing inappropriate footwear and leaving the trail to dangerously climb rocks for the "perfect picture." Decided to...More

The down trail to Dark Hollow Falls is easy. But come back trail is moderate difficult. The fall is however AWESOME.

An easy but varied hike down to the bridge below the falls. Plenty of places to stop and have a paddle. We did it we our youngest who is 6 and there wasn’t an issue. Allow time for stops and paddling. The falls are pretty.

This was our first hike and we didn’t know what to expect in level of difficulty. This trail was steep but not impossible and not too hard for a nineteen year old and a what a fifty three year old to do. The view at...More

Anyone, including children, should be able to do this hike although it seems some spots can be a bit slippery during inclement weather. The trek to the falls is definitely worth it although this is a popular trail and you really won't have much solitude.

I’m sure this is a beautiful hike as the reviews here match those on another trail finder website for Dark Hollow Falls. However the directions here took us to the middle of a road with no trailheads nearby, and are more than 50 minutes from...More

Did this one with my family, we are all pretty fit and able bodied. We made it to the bottom with no problems, the path does get a bit rocky, with some big steps. View at the bottom so worth it! I dipped my head...More

Short hike close to Big Meadows lodge. Lots of parking. Very popular - sometimes even crowded. Surprised how many small kids were on this as the terrain was steep and uneven in places; although very pretty. More people on this hike than any other one...More

There were plenty of families hiking, but there are several sections of steep steps, so it would depend on the hiking level of the children. If they aren’t used to hiking, it would be best to choose an easier hike.
