What a spectacular road trip! The entire trip is about 100 miles. The first half of the drive was quite rainy with poor visibility, but the next day was wonderful. Stayed in Big Meadow Lodge at the halfway mark. Lots of wildlife.

Skyline Drive is great. The road is well kept. The overlooks are beautiful. Trails are well marked. Maps are easy to read.

The exact times vary each year by several weeks. There are fall color trackers on the web that you should keep tracking to get the optimum colors
