Well worth the steep hike up. I wore my almost 3 year old on my back, which really helped. My mom was not able to do the hike because of her knees. The path is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs, though well paved. Please...More

Beautiful views that are breathtaking. A little bit of a walk up a steep hill but top and bottom have a great view of the Smokey mountains. Free

On a clear day you can see an amazing distance. After parking, at the end of the lot, there is a half mile hike to the summit. Take your time - the hike is steep and the air is thin. Benches are scattered along the...More

My family of 4 loved seeing Clingmans Dome! We had an exceptionally beautiful day and visibility was amazing! The website said it was closed during our stay, but when we visited one of the visitor centers below, we heard it was open. We went early...More

This is absolutely a must when visiting the Smoky Mountains!! Be prepared for a steep 0.5 mile paved hike to the top! Once there, you can get a panoramic view of the mountains that is amazing!

The drive is long and the hike is difficult but it is definitely worth it! It is a drive into the Smoky Mountains from Cherokee. Once at the parking lot there is about a 1 mile hike up a steep cement incline. It is the...More

This is a great place to visit with amazing views from the top of the observation tower. Check the weather before heading up. Parking is a nightmare, be prepared to wait coming in and going out. Minus one star for the super gross outhouses. Pro...More

We unfortunately went on a day with little to no visibility. We hiked all the way to the top and even went up in the tower. It was kind of a steep hike but the path is paved and there are benches along the way...More

It is a 1/2 mile hike to Clingmans Dome from the parking area, but it worth the hike. The trail is paved and there are benches to rest. Parking was the worst thing. We went at noon and it was packed.

Clingmans Dome is the name of the mountain. The road to the Clingmans Dome parking area is a bit curvy and there are some drop offs. I would think your husband's problem would be that road more than the .5 mile paved hike... More
