I ran out of time in 2017 to make this hike while visiting Grand Teton NP. I planned my 2018 trip around it and it was indeed the "Crown Jewel" of the experiences. To be honest, I was not sure what to expect -- other...More
First time hiking in US national park, we are from Hong Kong and in a group of 4. A bit worried at first Becoz it is a bear zone area and we bought a can of bear spray. The park ranger/ guide at Jenny lake...More
I hiked in from String / Leigh Lake, through Paintbrush, up and over the Paintbrush Divide, past Lake Solitude, and camped at North Fork Cascade. Next day, I hiked out through Cascade Canyon, around Jenny Lake, and back to the parking lot.
Overall, paintbrush canyon...More
You should be aware though there were no views back to Jenny Lake in 2018 you had to climb to Lower Inspiration Point for that. We only walked 3 miles up the 5 mile trail as we had previously visited Hidden falls & Lower Inspirational...More
I read about the colonies of marmots, and so being animal lovers, my 7 yr old and I wanted to give this a shot. I also read it was 1 mile to the canyon. What I didn't read was that it was a grueling 1...More
By far one of the best hikes I've ever done. Take the shuttle across Jenny Lake to shave off about 5-mi RT from your hike. We were time-limited, so we went about 3 miles in, stopped for lunch, and hiked out to the shuttle. The...More
Steep for the first 1000 feet. You take a boat, which is beautiful trip, across the lake to get there to cut off 2.0 miles of the trip. You go through nice woods and climb. I saw waterfall everywhere! I'd definitely return!
We got up and took the first boat shuttle at 10am. We had originally planned to just hike up to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point and walk back so we bought the one way fare which is $9 apiece. Round trip is $15. My wife...More

Cascade canyon is definitely the better option but involves more ascent. I would recommend either taking the ferry across or park at trail head at north of Jenny Lake & walk in from the North which is much shorter than from Jenny Lake Lodge car park. The ferry both ways saves 5 - 6 miles of walking.
I strongly recommend you go on the Grand Teton National Park website where you can get information on all the walking trails with distances shown. The canyon views are different than those from the lake & the lake route views can be seen from the road anyway.
In September Inspiration Point was still closed but Lower Inspiration point was open but to get to the canyon trail after visiting the point & falls you had to go back to the ferry and up another trail from there. We did not go all the way up to the top of the canyon. We stopped after it became totally wooded 2 -3 miles into the Canyon.
