We visited GNP during early September, 2018. There were many fires resulting in many locations closed, especially on the west side. Very disappointed we could not visit the Lake McDonald Lodge. Since we could not drive our RV on the Road to the Sun we...More

This is a beautiful lake that can be easily viewed from multiple roadside pullouts / parking areas on the St Mary’s side on the Road to the Sun (east of Logan Pass) or from several hiking trails. We took the time to drive from Apgar...More

Made a number of stops on the Going to the Sun Road along the lake. Had considered taking a boat trip but the winds were pretty strong and lake choppy. Peaceful.

There are several places to stop along the Going-to-the-Sun Road where you can get some great pics. I recommend going early for the best lighting.

St Mary Lake is a pretty lake at one of the entrances of the Glacier National Park on the east side, near the town of St Mary. My husband, a friend and I drive past the long lake on the Going-to-the-Sun Road. We saw a...More

Unfortunately, Glacier has been hit with fires several years in a row. This lake is surrounded by burned trees, which definitely takes away from the beauty of it. But if you are entering Glacier National Park from the east, you'll be driving by it on...More

The scenery changes with every turn around this amazingly beautiful lake. We experienced first hand, the lake effect because the temperature differed greatly depending on if you were on the windward or leeward side of the lake.

Hi, I remember it being a tad longer than a mile, but perhaps you can google map the distance. If you are really early and it is calm - awesome shots! I have it as a screen saver on my phone!
