This 0.2 mile boardwalk trail shows you why the Everglades is called the "River of Grass". You can see nothing but tall grass for miles that moves in the breeze like water. It was a great place to stop for a few minutes before continuing on the scenic drive.

I stopped at Pa-hay-okee Trail on my way to Flamingo. The trail and boardwalk pass through a cypress dome and provide overlooks of the vastness of the Everglades. I find cypress domes to be one of the most beautiful places on earth! The slow-growing wispy cypress trees rise out of the wet ground like gentle giants. I went early in the day (around 10 am) and the heat and bugs weren’t really bad yet. Definitely use some bug spray as you should anywhere in the Everglades. I highly recommend this short hike to get a better feel for this amazing unique landscape!

A short trail to see the terrain. We heard birds and other wildlife but didn't see any. The road to the Trail is also very nice to see the terrain and we also spotted a barred owl.

This is a pretty trail with a good overlook out over the park, but there were not many animals to see. That was the only downside.

The Pa-hay-okee Trail is a boardwalk look less than a quarter-mile long. Halfway through it, there's an elevated canopy surveying the freshwater expanses of the Everglades. It gives you a good sense of what the terrain of the Everglades is, but the Big Cypress Park overlook in the state part north of the Everglades is higher and more impressive and more wildlife is visible from it. Having been there, this overlook was not overly impressive.

We walked the loop, taking a few pictures. We saw fish and terrain from this "high" point in the nearly flat Everglades.

We were intrigued as we drove along seeing signs with elevation 3 feet or 4 feet.

The Pay-hay-okee Trail is a short one. You have a good view and you get a good impression about the wilderness there.

We stopped here as we left the park. It is only about .2 miles and the vista is breathtaking. There are no bathrooms. The walk is on a boardwalk that is easy to traverse. My 11 year old was unimpressed but I think that was because he was exhausted from kayaking earlier in the day.

We made a quick stop here on our way to the Flamingo Visitors area. This was a short overlook but it was interesting to see the different area and flora and fauna. Nice parking area, easy in and out.

Very short hike on a wooden walkway, with an observation deck halfway. Not my favorite trail, as I expected to see more of the dormant deciduous trees from the overlook, but worth the quick stop if you're driving past the trailhead.
