We had a fantastic time at the Anhinga Trail - we only visited the Everglades for the morning so this was the perfect place to get an insight into the wonders of the Everglades.

We timed it perfectly and arrived just as a free tour was starting. Our guide was local to the area and she was so enthusiastic and knowledgable - her enthusiasm for the area was infectious! We were so lucky to hear bellowing gators, had a gator cross right across the path infront of us, turtles in the water and a bunch of other amazing wildlife.

Really recommend!

We had a great ranger tour guide. Really liked his explanation of the ecosystem in the park even though this was not our first visit.

Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE experience! The trail is a short distance from the park entrance and is short, convenient, flat walk, mostly on an elevated boardwalk. It's an absolute MUST, is you want to see some gators in their natural habitat. The trail lives up to its name and we saw innumerable anhinga birds. We got there around 8am and were the only ones on the trail. The first gator we saw was on the side of the main road before turning off. After that, on the 0.8mile trail, we counted 16 gators in total. Also, we saw a beautiful Great Egret. Highly recommend!!!

We walked around both the Anhinga Trail and a nearby trail on our own, Then, decided to go on the 10:30AM ranger walk. Olivia was AMAZING. We saw lots of birds (including anhingas and babies!), turtles and gators. We even saw a turtle being eaten by a gator - which was quite an experience.

The Anhinga Trail was where we spotted our first alligator in the park. And then we just kept seeing them, all the way up until one was sleeping half on the trail! We also saw turtles, huge fish, and- you guessed it!- tons of birds including anhinga. The trail is mostly boardwalks and is less than a mile total, but it took us a while due to all the stopping and animal watching.

During our February visit we found that Anhinga had very few birds and wildlife. I really like this place, but if you are looking for birds and wildlife go elsewhere. My best suggestion would be Shark Valley and Big Cyprus. This part of Florida has gotten too much rain this year and most of the birds and wildlife like drier areas. The alligators and birds simply aren’t congregating around Ahinga this year.

We loved our walk on the Anhinga trail. We were lucky that a park ranger was out about halfway, answering questions and helping point out wildlife. She also let folks use her binoculars, so if you have your own, I'd recommend bringing some; they definitely help. Yes, beware of vultures. There are some tarps at the visitor center right by the trail you can borrow to cover your car, but they are limited.

A pleasant and short walk. You might see some alligators, birds, sea turtles and fish. If you consider which trails to walk in the Everglades, include this one.
