Great Fall Trail Ride
Nov 2020 • Couples
We took a great 2 hour trail ride in the early afternoon. Our guide, Max and his horse Ace, took us into the Foothills of the Funeral Mountains. Beautiful views and scenery and different than what we saw while hiking in different areas of Death Valley National Park. Great conversation and information from our guide. The horses were beautiful and fun to ride.

Great ride under the moonlight
Feb 2020
Our group of five did a moonlight ride (done on certain days at or close to full moon). We met at around 5:15, departed the stables at 5:45 and returned at 6:45. It was beautiful. Seeing your shadow cast by the moonlight was surreal. Healthy, well-behaved horses that were kept to a walk made for a relaxing and stimulating evening.

What a great trail ride!
Dec 2019
This was a wonderful trail ride. We took the two hour tour on New Years eve during the afternoon. Staff was super friendly; the horses are well cared for and very loved. The trail was at the foothills of Funeral mountain and we had some different views than we had seen while touring Death Valley. Highly recomment this activity. They match you up with a suitable horse and give basic instuctions. Luke was a great trail ride leader and was fun to chat with.

Great People and Great Ride
Dec 2018 • Friends
We took a 2 hour private ride in December 2018. Jacqueline (I'm sorry if I misspelled your name) took our money and got us ready for the ride. Our guide, Luis, was very patient with me and he was a great guy. I cannot say enough nice things about him. The ride was supposed to have been one where we would lope to a remote box canyon but I didn't feel comfortable on my horse, Ace. Luis changed his route and we rode in the foothills above the campgrounds. He took us to a couple of caves where we got off and had a few minutes to explore them. The horses even tolerated the coyote that we saw on our way back to the stables.

I would like to suggest to the owners (if they read this) that for the private rides where loping, cantering, etc., is allowed, to use horses that are used to that type of activity. The horses we had were so used to the nose to tail type of trail ride that I had to kick mine several times to get him to move up to my friend's horse. Then Ace would slow down again and I'd have to repeat the process. Ace and Charlie acted like they didn't want to go faster than a walk. The horses were good natured and never seemed to get mad at their riders.

I would definitely recommend a ride with the stables to anyone interested.

Great People, Great Experience, Went Twice
Feb 2018 • Family
My daughter now has a photo of Bode the horse by her bed. It was her first horseback riding experience. Luis and Samantha run a great operation. Their instructions and directions are clear and easy to follow. They were attentive to our safety without making us or the horses nervous. My daughter wanted to go everyday. Thank you, Luis and Samantha, for making our trip so much better.

good horses, great guide, excellent ride
Feb 2018 • Couples
My husband and I own a trail riding company ourselves and apparently we're in the right business because when we're on vacation, we often look for horse riding trips in cool areas. Furnace Creek Stables was great. Their horses were quiet and reliable and Jacqueline, our guide, had great information about the area - she'd been coming to Death Valley since she was a kid and her extended family owns the stables. We had a great time. Highly recommended.

Great Sunset Horseback Ride
Jan 2018 • Couples
I hadn't been on a horse in twenty years. My guide Jacqueline was great helping me get on my horse, Freckles, and re-acclimating me to horseback riding and the rules of the trail. Once I was on, we spent a pleasant hour riding across the desert of Death Valley in the late afternoon as the sun set behind the mountains. Jacqueline was very knowledgeable about the plant and animal life. The horses were very well trained and even tempered. No problems at all with the ride. I would recommend riding with the Furnace Creek Stables to anyone who would like to ride, expert or novice.

Horseback through Death Valley? You bet your boots!
Feb 2017 • Couples
We love climbing on horses to tear across the countryside no matter where we visit. Furnace Creek Stables was, after an exchange of dinero, most accommodating to our desires. We booked a 4 hour ride (highly recommended over the normal 2 hour offering) and headed east into the mountains for a close to nature look at the character of Death Valley, with a running narrative provided by our guide, John. It was a fun and informative trip, reminding us that we have it so easy compared to those who pioneered this region. Highly recommended!

Chester the Horse Rocks!
Oct 2016 • Solo
Chester the horse was my first horse with a pulse. Since all of my horse riding experience is in the plastic carousel horse realm, I checked with the guide beforehand to make sure that my utter lack of experience would be okay.

She was very reassuring, and a great guide with interesting tidbits to share about horses. We went on a one hour ride, I had a great time, and Chester was all about snacking on the brush. She was super patient, bless her heart, cause I kept forgetting that the horse doesn't speak English so my telling the horse "dude, let's leave the snacking for later," is not exactly the most effective command.

I get the feeling she's on staff to train the riders and not so much the horses, 'cause all the horses were pretty awesome from the get go and needed a lot less reassuring than the humans. Go Chester, you're my spirit animal because I love snacking too.
