Small village in the middle of nowhere
Apr 2021
The Stovepipe Wells Village has quite a few options to do some quick shopping at the General Store, fill up on gas, have lunch/ dinner at the restaurant (although only take-out was available due to Covid restrictions) and even stay overnight at the Stovepipe Wells Village Hotel.

GREAT
Apr 2021
We stayed in the full hook-up RV site. Although there are plenty of Boondocking sites for RV'rs, there is only 14 full hook ups, so book EARLY. There are also plenty of rooms, for non RV enthusiasts. Everything is there,-modern, well planned including restaurant, grocery store and gasoline station. How convenient. The next gas is not til Furnace Creek, another 27 miles further if you're entering from the Westd. For me, Stovepipe Wells fit the bill. Great place. Highly recommend. The Mesquite Sand Dunes are within sight and also terrific to visit. I drove my Ford Focus to most sights, including those accissible by dirt roads. But, if you want to see RACE TRACK (where the mysterious rocks seem to move by themselves when no one is looking) you definitely need to rent a off road vehicle unless you already have a jeep or similar.

A welcomed hot Pizza!
Jan 2021 • Couples
During these Covid times, the saloon at Stovepipe was closed but the restaurant was providing take out. After a long day exploring the Badwater side and watching sunset from Zabriske's point we headed back to our homebase at Panamint resort..feeling too tired to cook dinner we stopped at Stovepipe wells. The young girls working the restaurant were polite and helpful. Our pizza was ordered, we used their clean rest rooms, and waited. In just a few minutes a hot pizza with plates, utensils, was ready. We ate outside, on the socially distanced tables. The pizza was good, not expensive, easy and we were soon headed back to camp. Definitely a good choice after a long day of sightseeing.

A stop option for a few amenities in Death Valley National Park
Dec 2020
This is one of the areas in the park where you can pay your entrance fee cor the park. We opted to renew our annual pass - $80 for access to the broader national park system for an entire year. During this Covid era, the general store was only allowing four people to enter at one time, so you might encounter a line here. On the other side of the street, we were able to get takeout at a restaurant which had burgers and pizzas available. Not much else happening in Stovepipe Wells at the present time.

You can see the sand dunes from this place.

The general store is quite expensive. Don't buy anything. They do sell foods but way overpriced. Just bring your own food. Save you money.

Great food!
Jul 2020
We stopped here on both of our days in the Park. We ate lunch twice at the saloon (I forget the name) and had black bean burgers both times, and they were delicious. Kia waited on us the first day, and she was awesome. The second day another young lady waited on us (we did not get her name), and she was equally friendly and engaging. We also shopped both days at the general store, and enjoyed picking up some souvenirs, t-shirts, etc. You should definitely stop here and enjoy the hospitality.

just go to fill the gas
Jun 2019
we stop there is for filling the gas to our car, but the gasoline price here are much higher then outside the park, but Death valley is so big, and only 2 places to fill gas within the park, so you have to fill enough gas, otherwise it will be very troublesome if our of gas in the middle of nowhere.

Nice facility

Much smaller than Furnace Creek, yet has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Locations gives ease of access to a few hiking venues, but is well away from the popular activities near Furnace Creek.

Good stop for lunch

cheaper gas and a good restaurant for lunch or dinner than Furnace Creek. The gift shop is fairly large and you can find any day supplies you may need.
