Fun Canyon Hike
May 2021
Fun hike!

The trailhead is at the end of a dirt road. We navigated it just fine in our front-wheel drive suv. No restrooms or water.

After parking, you'll have a bit of a walk to actually get in the canyon. It's not very impressive, but once you get in, it's pretty cool. We didn't even hike the whole thing, but we loved what we did see. Definitely worth a stop even if you don't have time or energy to go the entire trail. The trail was not terribly strenuous, but there is definitely some scrambling and some loose dirt that makes for unsure footing.

Stunning.

The second time I've hiked this canyon. It is stunning. Definitely worth the drive down a gravel road.

You should go
Apr 2021
It is a dirt road to get to the parking lot.
The full trail is 1.7 miles. It is a slight uphill the whole way. The last third is climbing over rocks a great deal of the time. You know you are at the end of the trail when you see a wall and you can no longer continue.
Even a third of a way into the canyon is so pretty. It gets narrow and there are all different types of rock formations forming the canyon.

Awesome hike!

We spent three days in DV and did several hikes and this was our favorite. Super interesting geology and the slot canyons were fun. Great place to take photos. Did the Boulder problem near the end - worth it to get to the dry waterfall. There is a detour around the Boulder problem, marked on the ground with rocks in the shape of an arrow.

Adult jungle gym!

This is a fun hike, as there are several spots where you have to scramble to get up them. If you are afraid of the climbing, than I would suggest you go for the very first part of the trail, which is a beautiful slot canyon. For those adventurers, keep going past the slot canyon, and you will be rewarded with some rock climbing, slides and cliffs! Follow the arrows and you will make it to the end, which is well worth the trip!

You may need help climbing over slippery boulders
Feb 2021
After a 2.3 mile drive on a rough gravel road you will reach the trailhead for Mosaic Canyon.

I began the 2.8 mile (out and back) hike into the canyon and I was impressed by the fascinating rock formations. There are so many different colors in the rocks.

As the canyon began to narrow, the formations became more and more interesting. However, I didn't get too far. In the middle of the trail is a large and slippery boulder. Most people were helping each other up and onto the boulder to continue the hike, as it is very difficult to get footing on the slippery boulder without a place to anchor your footing. I, however, was hiking alone and wasn't able to continue past this point. Admittedly, while I am used to scrambling over rocks, I'm getting up there in age and wasn't confident I could maneuver this trick on my own.

One of the highlights! Great EASY hike!
Jan 2021
This was one of my favorites in DV! Easy hike, is best at mid day. The sunlight on the marble veined walls is amazing. There are a few marble slides, the kids and adults will like, and if you've got a rock hound they'll be in heaven!

Truly outstanding
Dec 2020
There’s so much on this trail: great rock formations, tight canyons, high walls, smooth rock, embedded shale and rock, and some great scrambling. There are 4 or 5 rock crawl/climbs and one is a doozy, but that’s the fun. A real treat.

Great hike near Stovepipe Wells
Dec 2020 • Couples
We stayed in Stovepipe, so started the day with a hike up Mosaic Canyon and had the spot to ourselves. The hike gains elevation going on, so the hike back is easy. Lots of different types of rocks and formations. Great view of the north valley as you walk back out of the canyon.

Loved It!
Nov 2020
We went about a mile or so in, till you get to the point that your 70 year old body doesn't want to try to climb up huge boulders! A really easy walk/hike to that point. Lots of interesting formations and of course, the little slot canyon is fun to go through.
