About
These fan-shaped mountains created by the deposits of millions of years of flash floods are a good place for day hikes.

So hot!
Apr 2021
We knew ahead of time that an afternoon hike wasn't the best time to go but we did anyway. Be sure to pack plenty of water we nearly ran out. We got to a point near the end where it began going up to what looked like a pretty steep climb so thats where we stopped and headed back. The heat was just too much to put in that kind of effort. Still a great hike though

Good Early Morning Hike in a Picturesque Part of Death Valley
Apr 2021
We started early to take advantage of the cool temperature, and had a full day ahead of us. However, should have waited for the sun to be higher to fully experience the colors in the canyon. Lesson learned, should have started a little later.....for next time.

Nice Hike to Red Rocks
Apr 2021
It's a nice canyon walk. Go in the morning so there is shade for you most of the way. It's 3 miles round trip. We only went halfway but we saw the red rock canyon.

Fun, easy walk, with picturesque sights.
Apr 2021
Yes, you need to drive briefly on dirt road to get to the parking lot, but the hike is easy and beautiful. I'm a senior, and it was no problem. If you like to take photos, this is one place in Death Valley you don't want to miss. Best time is early morning when colors are expecially vivid.

A short easy hike with nice views
Apr 2021
This is an easy short hike (about 3 miles to the Red Cathedral and back) along a valley floor. There is little shade, so it's best hiked in morning, evening or during the cooler times of the year. It's a popular trail because of it's location (near Furnace Creek). The parking lot and roads nearby were full by the time we finished.

The payoff is at the Red Cathedral
Mar 2021 • Family
The hike up to Red Cathedral is nothing amazing, but still enjoyable. But man, get all the way up to the highest point you can at the Red Cathedral and the views are incredible! Highly recommend this hike.

Stretch your legs

Nice walk to get between the gold and red colors. Less fun, as it looks like it was once a road, so the trail doesn't feel that authentic. That said it is a perfect multiple size loop depending on how far you want to go.

Wait for It!
Feb 2021 • Family
The majority of this hike is relatively unspectacular compared to many of the views in the park. That is, until you get to the end, so WAIT FOR IT! I should say, don’t turn around until you get to the Red Cathedral. The colors are fantastic. And, if you are fit and adventurous, getting up close is fantastic! Plenty of danger, so good footwear is essential.

My favorite hike
Oct 2020
The scenery never ceases to amaze one. It is a phenomenal place to immerse yourself in.
We have found that we enjoy NOT making the loop but beginning at Golden Canyon TH and going clockwise until Zabriski Point. Here you can climb the cliff for additional excitement and then return the same way to your car.
Enjoy. It is worth every step.

Gorgeous
Dec 2020
Wish I was able to hike up but my mobility limited my activities. It was gorgeous just walking into the canyon entrance A small parking area but we were lucky that there was a spot perfect for our RV.
