Hot! But Worth It.
Jun 2021
Death Valley National Park is amazing. I visited on 06/3/21 and it was 124 degrees. While it was hot it was one of the best places I've visited. All the stops are quite a distance from each other so there is a lot of driving required. Badwater Basin was great. You can walk out onto the salt flats. There is even a small pond which is not something you expect to find in the middle of the desert. If you look way up on the cliffs overlooking the flat you can see a sign showing that it is 282 feet below sea level. I spent about 6 hours there. If you need anything the nearest town is Pahrump Nevada. Besides the visitors center, there is nothing around except a couple of lodges. You can also drive to the small, ghost town of Death Valley Junction which used to be Armagosa, California which was a company town owned by the Borax mining company. The Amargosa Opera house and motel are still there but not currently open.

Definitely one of the more important vistas in Death Valley National Park. Breathtaking and stunning in its awesome impact on the soul.

Very very hot

Unique flat sand and super hot deserted landscape. I wouldn't spend an hour here without drinking a lot of water.

Unique Landscape
May 2021
I rated this "very good" because it *is* the lowest point in the US!

You park and then can walk out on the flats. It's very hot, of course, and there's no covering, but it's nice and flat and is a unique landscape. We walked to about the halfway point and turned around.

Unique Site, Worthwhile Experience--Checked Off My Bucket List
Apr 2021
Have wanted to visit for years and finally made it. Much larger than I had expected. Area is 7.5 miles (12 km) by 5.0 miles (8 km). The salt flat extends about one mile from the visitor entrance at the parking lot. One of the best views of the basin is from Dante's View at the top of the rock formations behind the parking lot.
Was told that the raised hard crystals, like jagged rocks, look similar to the terrain at Devil's Golf Course, so we passed on visiting that site. The salt surface in some areas is mushy and cakes on shoes, due to underground springs. Visited mid-morning, a good time and weather was good.

Probably our least favorite stop in Death Valley
Apr 2021
While it was cool to be at the lowest point there really isnt that much to see here. The mountains make a nice backdrop but it really was just a ton of people standing on packed down salt taking selfies as far as the eye can see. Maybe it would be better early in the morning when no one else is around.

This is a trip - walking out there!
Apr 2021
Just as I've seen on TV shows. It's pretty cool though in person to get out and walk along the salt flats. So many parts of Death Valley I'v found to be different so if you've never gone, as I, make sure you put this on your bucket list.

Main must-visit in the park
Apr 2021
The Badwater Basin area has a lot of geographical significance and is easily a must-visit in the park. It is indeed a very unique achievement to visit the lowest point in North America. You can hike around the trail and take pictures but other than that, there is not really a whole lot to do there.

A Must See
Apr 2021
It's a short walk to the salty part of Badwater and there was still water there in late April. The interpretive signs were very helpful.

When In Death Valley.......
Apr 2021 • Couples
If you visit the park, this is what most folks think of when they think of Death Valley, and a must see. It is not a short drive from the highway, but not oppressive - plenty to see on the way in, and the way back. We saw some folks head out to see the salt formations (word has it a couple miles over what appears to be clay to where the scenery changes) most went less than 1/2 mile before heading back.
