Interesting place to watch sumo wrestlers arriving in their traditional garments. The entrance is lined with colorful banners. There are booths inside the hallway. You can a lot of Japanese wearing their different traditional garments.

Watching Sumo live is an amazing experience! I recommend bringing material (we used a kindle) to read about sumo while watching. There is a lot of "downtime" between matches (more like repeated ceremonial stuff), and its a good time to learn the rules, history, etc....More

I would hit up the Shinsaibashi, its within walking distance of the gymnasium and has everything.
