We walked through this area last year and somehow missed this section that was preserved as a reminder of how damaging earthquakes can be. This time, we purposely looked for the Memorial Park. It is a small area and can easily be overlooked if rushing...More

It is the best park that will bring comfort to your mind on this trip. The memory of the Kobe earthquake makes one part of the heart sad. However, this memorial park seems to be healing its wounds and making a fresh start.

We came across this by chance when we were walking around the park. There was a good video giving information and history of the earthquake.

We took a long walk from Sannomiya Station to the memorial park. Only a small area is dedicated to the aftermath remains of the earthquake. It is very windy at this port area. This is a nice place to take a stroll and feast our...More

Impressive little site with mementos of the earthquake and an interesting video (also available in English). You can see the immense damage of this earthquake, absolute unbelievable

Interesting part of the waterfront, where some of the earthquake damage has been left dramatically in place, and some helpful displays have been mounted. Worth a stroll around if you're nearby. A timely reminder of the nightmarish earthquake only a couple of decades ago.

It was interesting and even the wife read through the information and listened to the audio along with the pictures of the damage done during the quake. It shows the power involved, and how it devastated the harbour area. Not a real must, but if...More

Photos & displays give you a real feel of the trauma caused by the earthquake & the amazing efforts of the city following the disaster. There is a section of the pier as it was post eathquake. A peaceful area to reflect & learn

Motomachi JR station is probably best coming from Osaka. It's the station after Sannomiya. The walk to the park is about 400m, think. Maybe 500 m. Hope that helps.

Hi, please check at Google Maps "Meriken Park" - it's there. I am afraid that there is no direct connection via portliner. I suggest to get off at Boeki Center and then it's about 20 min walk, however maybe there's a better... More
