This beautiful home belonged to members of the Katsura family, one of the Imperial families of Japan. The home displays some very traditional Japanese architecture and landscape design.

Definitely worth visiting if you get the chance. Best of the 3 villas in Kyoto. Too bad we had to be herded like sheep. I always like to spend time sketching and photographing the landscape; but guided tours are always an unpleasant rush.

We booked the reservation ahead of time. My wife and I really enjoyed this garden even though it was raining that day. We visited all three Imperial Gardens in Kyoto, I liked this one best.

We visited with a group and were shown around the villa. It is a great example of a Japanese palace without the crowds. Some of the furniture and fittings remain - the carpets made me smile! The gardens again were delightful.
