We decided last minute to do this hike! So glad we did! It is not like hiking from Monterosso to Vernazza but it is a bit of a steep hike! Bring water! There is a cafe by the castle and the views are amazing! Many...More

You'd have difficulty finding anywhere in Italy that isn't charming in it's own way, especially around Lake Como, but for me Varenna is the prettiest. For the best views, visit the Castello. You have 2 routes. Do yourself a favour and take the longer route...More

We walked up from Varenna to visit the castle and admire the views, and loved the experience. There is written information about the history of the castle in English; we found the details to be fascinating. We were advised to visit in the morning before...More

The sound of those poor caged birds tore my heart out... Birds that should never have been born to sit tied to perches.... It was heartbreaking ....

For the energetic, you can walk all the way up, or park halfway and walk the rest. There's a nice cafe where you can get your tickets and a refreshing drink. The tower itself is nothing special architecturally, but the views of the lake are...More

The views from Castello di Vezio are amazing. It is a steep, but not difficult or long (~30 min), hike up provided you find the right path. Use the cobblestone path behind Varenna, not the road that goes above town. If signage for the path...More

Not even the most amazing landscape can make up for the suffering of the beautiful and poor birds of prey, which are tied in a small yard, obviously stressed from the presence of surrounding people around them and trying helplessly to escape.

We didn't go on a day when the falconry shows take place, which was a shame. However, there's enough to see and take in for an hour or so. We drove up to this and parked in the (free during the week) car park outside...More

We visited on a Monday in mid-September and it was quiet in Varenna so we took the small winding road next to the large underground car park (south of the town) and parked near the hotel up there. The walk from here is 20 mins....More

Was good to stretch the legs on the challenging walk up the this place. Price good to get in, it’s the right price. Nice views. Not really much of a castle but worth coming for the views. Also worth visiting Varenna was beautiful little town.

Hi there, I've only found one reference to the height which was 383metres. Doesn't sound much but it's a steep hike, but well worth it when you get your breath back!

I’m sure you can get there by Taxi. There is a village close by, with just a short walk up the path to the castle. It only takes 20 minutes walking from Varenna, but it is a steep uphill walk. Take a cab if you have health... More

You might find it difficult to navigate the narrow streets that maze around the castle but you can always park up somewhere close to the castle and walk from there.
