Ilet de Caret is a magical place about to disappear in a few years due to the breaking of the coral barrier and the waves stealing away the perfectly white sand with each passing. The island is smaller each month and will soon cease to exist but another island is already forming someplace else. We took the one day trip to Ilet Caret with the firm of Marie -Laure and Jean-Luc, Balade en mer et Mangrove and it was even better than advertised. We left early in order to catch a free table with shade and on the small island we enjoyed a great snack with drinks( Planteur, featuring rum and exotic fruit juice is as good as it sounds), a snorkeling session at the coral barrier and a wonderful lunch with fried fish and grilled chocolate bananas for desert. Although tiny, the island is a great place for relaxation and swimming/snorkeling in perfectly clear waters among colorful fish. Some might find it uninteresting or boring, but we enjoyed it fully and would love to return to it someday, before it goes away. On a sunny day the view from the island or towards the island is simply stunning and you cannot but feel part of nature and its sometimes destructive other times creative force. Photographers, parents with small children, people in search of peace and quite and nature lovers, this is the place for you but try to get to the island on weekdays since on weekends it is too crowded. On the way back as your guides to take you to the mangroves and the bird islands, they make the trip truly memorable. I wholeheartedly recommend "Marie-Laure and Jean-Luc, Balade en mer et Mangrove" tours since I have seen them work and they are worth the money, the service being excellent and including a lot of explanations and interesting facts about Guadeloupe, its customs, food, drinks and most importantly nature.

In all fairness there is not much to say about a 100 metre long strip of sand with vegetation at one end except that it is a good mooring after a trip through the mangroves in the bay outside Sainte Rose and only a short distance from the coral reef where everybody seems to go snorkeling.
You have to go, just to say you've been there.

It is a wonderful island what shows exatly what we do with our planet. The island is smaller and smaller year by year cause the global warming but still amazing advanture. Take a boat stay there for the whole day and on the way back wonder the mangrove. Make sure the company you choose will take you to the coral reefs and provide food and drink on the island.

Sand mining and storms have been degrading this sand island in the lagoon and there isn't much left.
The mature coconuts are gone and the newly planted ones are still tiny. While the cabins have mostly fallen into the sea.
Despite all those sad facts, it is a charming place to visit and snorkel around.

We have been there many times and each time we come back to Guadeloupe we go back here!! A bit crowd in the weekend but a real paradise. Snorkelling is great and kids have fun too. Take apero in the water and you feel the magic.

Visited on the first excursion of a Cruise. The journey from Poit a Petre was interesting, passing along the mangroves of the Salty River between Basse Terre and Grand Terre. We then crossed open water to the island on our "fiesta" craft. The boat dropped anchor and we waded through waist high water to the shore. The only structures on the island are some sun shelters - you need to return to your boat for toilets etc.. Some of the island has been washed away and the frames of old shelters stick out into the water. It was lovely but not "deserted" as several boats were visiting. However, it was fun to walk round the sandy island (took 15 minutes, going slowly) and to swim. Our crew brought drinks and played music on the beach. Lunch, more drinks and dancing on the boat entertained us on the return to Point a Petre.

The island is really small so it’s actually a sandbank. Gorgeous water around it. You can relax there and have a swim. I can’t believe that it might be gone soon as it will disappear underneath the waves. We need to stop global warming to save places like this.
On the way you can visit to mangroves. Snorkelling isn’t that great as there are very few fish and the corals seem grey.
On the whole it was a great trip.

Try renting a boat or taking an organized tour to visit this small island till is still not covered by water. The island is more and more little an soon will disapear. No more trees on the island, exept the new ones. Sadly to found out the presence of a bar an barbeque.. not appropiate at all for this type of tiny wonder land...

This is very popular destination due to its visual attraction. The island is 60m x 20m and there are usually 10 - 15 boats at each time while the weather is nice. Grill parties and music are common. Not to do during high season, if You would like to contemplate the picturesque island of Blue Lagoon. There are no trees at the island temporary.

Really want to visit this little ilet, but am having trouble finding any information in English about a boat excursion out there. Can anyone offer some advice to couple of people who speak no French about how to get out there, where to leave from, how much it will cost, etc?
