We were taken to this incredible place by a friend who has written a book about the area. We spent an enchanting weekend here and a good couple of hours walking up to the castle, and having lunch nearby. The castle is interesting from a...More

The steep climb from the parking area was worth the effort. The vistas all around were very intriguing: small villages in the valleys, modern farms, vineyards, and neighboring hilltop castles. The atmosphere was low-key, with justr a few shops open to provide locally-made artifacts rather...More

Visited in early Oct during the week. A bit to late really but still got the feel of the place. Shops were not open. Neither were the restaurants. But what a place. Perched on the highest land with very long views. Amazing how they got...More

The location is surreal. Best to see is evening or morning, with sun low on the sky. It makes the mountains more plastic if they have shadows. You can climb the Rocca's walls for free, the inner cube is open only in Sunday. I think....More

We stayed one day and one night there, the place is simply amazing, a 360 degree view around central italy mountains which is very beautiful. Several movies have been shot here!

Having enjoyed an unforgettable lunch in a nearby restaurant in Santo Stefano in Sessanio, we decided that a good walk would do us good and headed for the historical Rocca Calascio. This wonderful walk requires the ability to get around in reasonably rough terrain. The...More

The castle is old ruins - nothing special. But it is located on very high hilltop (mountaintop even), above the city. Its dominating the region and gives breathtaking panorama of nearby valleys and mountains. You can just sit there and watch for hours. Be aware...More

A hair raising drive up narrow, winding roads and then a hike to the top. Beautiful views of the surrounding country side. The fortress itself is really neat to look at on the drive up (don't let the driver get distracted, though!) You will recognize...More

Every time we come here, we’re astounded. Totally unique! Best to come outside July and August when you have to park at the bottom and fight Italians (tip: be cheekier than they are!) to get on the shuttle bus to the top. It’s much better...More

I think the church is only open on special occasions. Weddings etc. The castle is nice and the wee village has a great bar.
