This place is the best in Mrauk U. There are inside tunnels and they just keep going. The design work inside is breathtaking and the colors are just wonderful. The carvings will just take your breath away. Hurry quickly to visit Myanmar.

An over 100 m tunnel-like passageway meanders through the fortress-like temple. The walls are lined with colored bas relief sculptures of Rakhine people, animals, and Jakata stories. An amazing visual experience and must-visit site.

It is no wonder that Mrauk U is popularly known as the Land of Pagodas and Europeans remarked Mrauk U as the Golden City. Mrauk U was founded in 1430 A.D and became the seat of the Rakhine dynasty if that time.

The original temple is quite beautiful with the huge stone stupas surrounding it. Impressive. But the new additions (built in the 1950s we were told) significantly detract from the original.

There's so much to see at this temple, it brings together several different aspects of the practice of Buddhism in this place, of another era. I loved the humane scale of the carvings, that one can get very close to them and see how they...More
