Birds of Eden is part of the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (SAASA).

Birds of Eden is the largest single-dome free flight aviary in the world, spanning 2.3 hectares of natural forests, streams and dams. With over a kilometre of walkways, visitors can experience the thrill of spotting almost 3500 previously captive birds of over 200 different species flying free and living natural lives. The scenery alone warrants a visit with hundreds of different plant and tree species plus there are giant fruit bats, golden-handed tamarins and the smallest of the antelopes, Blue duikers. Visits to Birds of Eden are self-guided and you are free to wander for as long as you wish at your own pace. Guided tours for group bookings can also be arranged on request at no additional cost.

We bought a combo ticket for this park and the Monkey sanctuary. The first part was a little disappointing and we began to wonder whether it was a waste of time. How wrong we were. The board walks, bridges, crossings and wetland areas just got better and better. Do use mosquito repellent before you start. They do offer it free... More

If ever you have time this is a "must do" just outside Plettenberg Bay. There is a small restaurant offering delightful small meals and snacks. So many different exotic birds to see at very close range. One can only marvel at the Colours......simply too beautiful. Take binoculars and cameras.

Even if you are not a real bird fan, this place is intriguing with a walk way through a forest, nestling in a huge netted area, so large that you can see flocks of birds flying. We had flamingos walking so close to us, which we captured on video. The walk way winds up and down and across on a... More

If you are a bird lover, I would definitely recommend a visit here You have to be attentive from the moment you enter the aviary. Take your time and invest in the booklet that lists the birds. Absolutely worth the money.

This is a vast netted enclosure, so large that you can see flocks of birds flying around with ample space for them to thrive. An excellent environment in which to see such a huge variety of wonderful creatures. Yes it is a bit expensive, particularly when you also have to pay for the guidebook, but for us it was well... This is a beautifully presented bird sanctuary. Fantastic sightings in magnificent surroundings. The best I've seen in a sanctuary for birds. Highly recommended to visit. Buy the guidebook so you know what to look for.

A great place to take the family. Up close and personal with the beautiful birds and the Avery is amazing... it's almost unbelievable that something so huge is a refuge for all theses birds. A remarkable effort to make this such a stunning sanctuary.

Nice big area, but the price (260 rand per adult, kids half) is a rip off. No guide. No educational signs. Guidebook at extra cost. The money is better spend in a public national park or game drive.
