Birds of Eden is part of the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (SAASA). Birds of Eden is the largest single-dome free flight aviary in the world, spanning 2.3 hectares of natural forests, streams and dams. With over a kilometre of walkways, visitors can experience the thrill of spotting almost 3500 previously captive birds of over 200 different species flying free and living natural lives. The scenery alone warrants a visit with hundreds of different plant and tree species plus there are giant fruit bats, golden-handed tamarins and the smallest of the antelopes, Blue duikers. Visits to Birds of Eden are self-guided and you are free to wander for as long as you wish at your own pace. Guided tours for group bookings can also be arranged on request at no additional cost.

If you want to get up close and personal to birds of nature, this is the place to go to. It's a photographer's paradise and well worth a visit with well constructed paths giving you great vantage points.

We chose to walk on our own which was a good decision since there were lots of group tours which you could listen to. Get the guide book before you go in. Saw some unbelieable birds!!

A nice drive through the Crags to get to the sanctuary. The netted dome was huge and the variety of bird life vast. The parrot-like birds seemed to take a shine to me and landed on my shoulder a couple of times, which was fun...More

Relaxed outing walking around watching the birds. The path is pram friendly and it was easy to go with the babies. Not a good idea if bad weather is coming in since the birds then go into hiding in the high treetops. Not suitable if...More
