AfriCanyon offers an incredibly unique experience on the Garden Route, South Africa. Africanyon's professionally trained guides will take you into a world unknown, a hidden gem. You will abseil in and around waterfalls, zip-line, swim and enjoy optional jumps - while taking in the incredible beauty that exists in a canyon-world hidden from all. Also called canyoneering, gorge-walking and known as "Kloofing" locally. AfriCanyon is Open Daily. Choose between the Standard trip or the Short trip options. Thank you to our guides Seth and Puna for the great adventure experience today. The weather was drizzly, but that didn’t matter as we doned wetsuits, harnesses, life jackets and helmets - and masks. Many Jumps into rock pools, swimming in the river, a zip line or 2, and an abseil in and walk out of the kloof made an all round great experience. Whilst advertised as fine for all, I suggest the excursion is avoided if you are not suitably fit, or afraid of heights and jumping into rivers. I would recommend hiring the AfriCanyon shoes as they appeared to be less slippery than our takkies. You are essentially in the water for most of the time.

Was an amazing experience and would recommend it to anyone. The only downside was that the camera's battery wasn't very good, I would recommend getting a better camera.
The Tour guides were very good I can't remember the names but they said we must call them "Black 1" and "Black 2".

Our Cameras are great. Its the re-chargeable battery that caused the issue on your trip.
Subsequent to your trip we have purchased new batteries for our cameras so hopefully this doesn't repeat and that we learn from it..

A great activity trip made extra special by the two guides we had, Tebzz(zzz) and Puna. As well as making sure we were all safe (as a priority) their enthusiasm and sense of humour was a real pleasure. We were a group of 4 and they coped with the petulant and demanding behaviour of the other 2 with remarkable patience and good humour. Great blokes.

I don’t normally write reviews but this was such a great experience, I feel compelled to tell everyone.
It fun, adventurous, the route is beautiful and our guide Tebzzzzzz was phenomenal. You can make it as daring or as calm as you want to, the guides are super competent and professional and literally guide you every step of the way.
My 9 and 12 year old kids loved it and so did I.

What an amazing experience! An absolute must! I have never experienced anything as breathtakingly beautiful as this canyon tour, with a touch of excitement to add that bit of edge. Tour guides Steph and Puna made the trip so enjoyable with the quirky senses of humour yet keeping safety a priority at all times. They were extremely patient with my slightly wary 12 year old daughter and had her jumping off the cliffs with confidence in no time. Thanks guys, you’re the BOMB! A highlight of our trip to the Garden Route!

Thank you to the incredible team of AfriCanyon for giving me one of my best experiences in a breathtakingly beautiful location. It was thrilling and incredible fun!
From the moment we arrived, the guides and the team were hyping up the group in preparation for the adventure. They were positive, funny and extremely professional. As someone with a fear of heights, they immediately got rid of some of my nerves, and got me excited for the Kloofing adventure.
The Kloofing course definitely got my adrenaline pumping, but I felt like I was in good hands the entire time. The experience was exhilarating and so much fun. I was in awe at the beauty and nature surrounding me throughout the entire course. This experience is fun to do with friends, family, and teenage children.
From start to finish, the team was extremely professional and kept us feeling as safe as possible! It was way more than what I expected or was hoping for. I highly recommend AfriCanyon!

An amazing experience that cannot be put into words. If you are an adventurous soul who appreciates the beauty of nature you NEED to experience Africanyon. The staff are friendly and will ensure that you have the best time while feeling safe. The only reason why they didn’t get 5 stars is because there isn’t an option to have photos / videos taken of your experience and Taking your phone with is not an option. Africanyon is a MUST DO if you’re travelling along the garden route.

Thank you so much for your great review and we really appreciate all the positive things you have to say, however I must clarify that we take a 100 % underwater waterproof Camera with us on every trip and take and share photos with those who would like to purchase them. We highly recommend to all our guests that want to take their Smartphones with them NOT to do so. I personally have drowned 2 x iPhones and can confirm that not one of our guests that has insisted on taking their smartphone into the canyon has returned with the phone still working..... thnx again

We booked the short canyoning experience not sure what to expect. We just happened to be the only couple booked on - we were lucky to have full attention from Warren and Julian. They put us at ease right away. Safety first, all equipment provided - wetsuits, harnesses, helmets and life jackets. Just a swimsuit and an old pair of trainers needed (but you can hire). Great teaching during the abseil into the Kanyon so that you felt confident. The gorge was spectacular so the swims and jumps into deep flowing pools was such a pleasurable experience. Take time to lie on your back and look up! It really gives you perspective on how deep this gorge is. We really appreciated Warren and Julian's experience, encouragement, lightheartedness and attention. Didn't want it to end. If you are thinking of doing this, just go for it. We are both nearly 50, you don't need to be young and it is good to push yourself out of your realm of experience every now and again. Thank you so much!!

Hubby and I booked a couples activity. Our guides for the canyoning experience was Puna and Warren. Our experience was unforgettable. Warren was very patient, helpful and understanding. We are 54 and 71 yrs old. I have fear of heights but Warren was able to convinced/persuaded me into each jump. Thinking back we had the time of our lives with Adrenalin flowing like we have never experienced before. We will definitely recommend this activity to everyone we know! Thank you guys for the best day of our lives! The guides also take photos and videos so take your go pro! R200 for photos is an absolute give away!

We had an incredible tour, including jumps, ziplining and „abseiling“. Apart from the physical experience we where overwhelmed by the beautiful views from inside the salt river canyon. The tour was most professionally prepared and managed by the best guides that we could hope for: Steph and Darren. Thank you guys again, for not only making this an unforgettable one, but also most entertaining and fun! <3

We recently did this adventure and noted the extensive disclaimer. Including a disclaimer of Africanyon for all negligence, We asked Rogan for further information and also asked if they had had any client injuries or incidents. He recalled two. A shoulder displacement and one other related to an ankle. He further added that safety was paramount.
I am incredibly disappointed upon further investigation to see the following article. ‘A BELGIAN tourist drowned after being swept down a river during a kloofing expedition outside Plettenberg Bay ...” “The body was handed over to the police and their forensic pathology team and an inquest docket has been opened.”
The remaining five men were not injured. They were part of a group who had gone on the expedition with local adventure company Africanyon.
Founder of Africanyon Rogan Hindmarch said yesterday they were investigating the incident and would be releasing more information by today.”
Whilst my family has a lovely time, I do feel mislead as our questions relating to safety and previous incidents where pretty specific.

Dear Cathy,
The question that was posed by your husband was "had we ever had any injuries or incidents whilst abseiling or zip-lining?"
I remember the question specifically as i knew I was talking to an attorney and I believe I answered the question truthfully.
While I did not mention the devastating event that happened to us due to unpredicted nor forecasted very heavy rain that resulted in a flash flood I understand your disappointment and apologise for this. My intention was not to mislead you in any way.
Safety is of paramount importance to us and we strive every day to allow our guests to partake in adventure and Fun whist always trying our best to maintain a very high standard of safety.
Im glad that Ian and your son had a lovely time.

Is kloofing advisable for someone who cannot swim well? i.e. able to float and move about 50metres

Hi - Yes swimming skills are not essential. everybody has a life jacket so you float down the river and your guides will certainly assist you.
