    So interesting!
The Temple and surrounding countryside is beautiful. The Fire Dance is so exciting! The cast does an excellent job. Beware that the monkeys like to take eye glasses and phones. The only problem was that a cloudburst happened while we were watching the performance and we were drenched! Take ponchos and umbrellas!

    Beautiful place to visit
Did this as a last minute stop before we flew out from Bali. So glad we decided to stop here. Would definitely recommend getting one of the guides when you go in to show you around. They are very knowledgeable on the temple and was so interesting learning about it from a local. They also know the monkeys very well which made us feel more comfortable. The monkeys were actually very tame. Not sure if we went during their rest time but they weren’t aggressive at all. Need to be extremely careful with belongings. Don’t take anything valuable. In saying that, I did wear a hat and sunnies and they were completely fine. I only briefly got my phone out to get quick photos and kept it safely tucked away when not using. The guide was great at getting pics of us too which was nice. The monkeys seemed to know to stay away from them so I felt safe with the guide getting photos for us. The scenery was just stunning.

    Great to see another culture
We had a free shuttle here organised by our hotel, you have to pay to get in and for the Kecak dance separately. There are sarongs provided on arrival as all men & women must cover their knees. The temple grounds are nice for a wander around, with some great views. We were there for a total of around 2 hours. Excellent views of the sunset but we missed this as we were at the fire dance. There are two dances at 6pm and 7pm, in an amphitheatre. This started filling up from around 5pm, it filled up very fast and there was a very hot wait for the dance to start (would recommend bringing water!) The dance lasted around 45 minutes and was good to see another culture!

    Monkey Kingdom
Of course, you need to get here around 4 o’clock to explore the area at sunset. The views are simply amazing. Entrance 50 thousand per person. Immediately take off your caps and glasses, do not carry water in your hands - the monkeys will take everything away and chew it off (they took 2 glasses from the girls and chewed them up, laughing loudly). Look at the photo and decide for yourself where it would be better to watch the sunset while dancing. It's worth seeing at least once in your life.

Breathtaking view from the top of a cliff..
What a view from the top of the cliff! I was flabbergasted. A must visit place in Bali... It has a bit of walking but it is definitely worth it. If u come in the evening around 5 or 6, you can also watch the kecak fire dance in the amphitheater.

Good views but not much else going on
Not the worst place to visit because some of the views are great… however, plenty of people asking you to take them as your guide, or to protect you from monkeys… etc. A guide is not necessary, nor protection from the monkeys - if you’re smart and take off anything shiny and stay alert near them; they don’t really come near you. The views are cool but if you’re in Uluwatu already it wouldn’t be anything special. The temple you can’t enter, so it’s just a walk. I wouldn’t say there’s terribly much to see overall.

    Pura Uluwatu
Pura Uluwatu is a magnificent clifftop temple that offers a truly unforgettable experience in Bali! 🌅🕌 Situated on the edge of a steep cliff about 70 meters above the Indian Ocean, the views from Uluwatu are nothing short of spectacular. The temple itself is a beautiful example of traditional Balinese architecture and holds significant spiritual importance. One of the highlights of visiting Uluwatu is the evening Kecak dance performance. Set against the backdrop of a stunning sunset, the dance is both mesmerizing and culturally enriching. The chants of the performers and the dramatic fire dance make for an extraordinary experience. Walking around the temple complex, you can enjoy panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding cliffs. Be mindful of the monkeys in the area, as they are known to be quite cheeky and may snatch your belongings. Pura Uluwatu is a must-visit for anyone exploring Bali, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and spiritual ambiance. Whether you're there for the views, the culture, or the sunset, Uluwatu promises an experience you won't forget. Highly recommended!

Beautiful but be careful of the monkey
want to thank temple staff who helped me to get my mobile back from a mean monkey. he didn't ask for money but I tipped a little. The monkey want food and I didn’t have anything with me. It was a big Monkey maybe the leader. He stay down the cliff and I was very scared that he would drop the phone.

    Nice View and Playful Monkey
The views and scenery are nice. But be ware of monkey in the temple. Don't wear or use brightly colored things. Please keep your spectacle, sunglass, purse and wallet in safe place and the most important thing is your mobile phone. They can snatch pretty fast. Other than nice scenery, No ancient craftmanship or heritage in the temple.

We visited Uluwatu temple as an excursion from our hotel. There were 18 of us and the hotel guide Kevin. The trip left the hotel at 4 pm and took just over 1.5 hrs to get to the temple due to the incredibly bad traffic. When we arrived the site was absolutely full of people who had come to see the sunset and the fire dance. Sarongs are provided for free before entry and the entry fee to the temple area is 50,000 rupiah per person (The fire dance is extra and was fully booked on the day we went). The grounds are huge and undulating requiring climbing quite a few steps up and down. The temple itself is a wonderful sight particularly when the sun is setting - a typical Indian ocean sunset. The statue of the founding monk is worth seeing but the biggest 'obstacle' is the monkeys - they are everywhere and are to be avoided at all costs. During the hour we were there we saw 2 sets of spectacles and a mobile phone being grabbed and taken onto roof tops by the monkeys some never to be returned. Our guide was very careful to ensure everyone was aware of the monkeys even carrying peanuts to distract them. It was also really hot and humid. We left at 6:45 before the main rush and didn't get back to our hotel until 8:10 although this would have been so much worse if we had stayed until later as the car / bus park was crammed. Kevin was brilliant shepherding us all safely around the site and pointing out the important items and deserves huge respect for the job he did. Would I go again - probably not - sunsets like that on the Indian ocean are not a rarity and the monkeys and crowds make it a difficult place to enjoy.

Located in the southern part of Bali, this temple is renowned for its Kecak dance performances. To secure tickets, it's advisable to arrive early and join the queue at least 2 hours before the show. We attended the 6 pm performance, timed with the sunset, and arrived at 3:30 pm to wait in the long line. Despite our early arrival, we didn't get the best seats. The best option is to book tickets online, which may cost slightly more but allows for quicker entry.

We arrived to Uluwatu around 5pm in plenty of time to explore before the sunset (6.15) and our booked Kecak dance performance (7pm). The place is beautiful and very peaceful. Its also a home to over 400 monkeys (gray longtailed macaques). As the monkeys freely roam around I suggest you not to wear any jewelry including sunglasses and hats ( I’ve seen the monkeys snatch them from unsuspecting tourists), they will also take your bottled water or anything that hangs from your bag. Other than that the monkeys dont really bother you, but remember its their home. The sunset is beautiful, we caught it right before our kecak dance. The performance is very interesting and as you get the synopsis on a paper with your tickets you will also understand the history. Book the tickets online in advance , they are always sold out

The setting of the temple is spectacular! Located on a cliff, about 75 mts above sea level. This is one of the six key temples of Bali and well worth a visit. You can get some excellent pics of the temple, the surrounding sea, and the sunset!

However, the aggressive monkeys here are a turn-off. There are hundreds of them all over the place and they will grab your glasses/sunglasses right off your face or your mobile from your hands! Scary.

If this monkey menace could be controlled, the temple grounds would be that much more attractive.

There is a charge to enter the temple and an additional charge to view the Kecak dance.

Uluwatu Temple is a very popular tourist destination for Bali. In any day, you can find huge tourist bus arriving and departing the large parking lot at the Uluwatu Temple. You will need to pay a fare of IDR 50,000 (for adult) and IDR 30,000 (for children) in Jan. 2024 to access the temple. It is required for you to wear a Sarong during the visit, though it seems that the purpose of the Sarong is to prove that you have paid the entrance fee. The Uluwatu Temple ground host a number of Monkey groups. Unlike the sacred Monkey forest, the monkey here seems to be more aggressive, so look out for your belongs (hat, glass) and look out for monkeys hanging around all over the temple ground. The highlight of the Uluwatu Temple may be the stroll around the cliff walkway.

CAUTION!

Paid 100k to see a temple that we couldn't enter.
We were asked to pay 50k per person for the entrance fee for the temple, which closes right as the show ends. So you are only able to see the temple before the show.
We saw many people enter the temple after the show (even people that watched the same show as us), but we were stopped by a guard. The guard told us to go through the main entrance (by the ticket booth), but the people there said the temple was closed for the day.

Because of poor communication from the staff we only got to see the mediocre "fire" show.

The show itself is mostly some chanting, slapstick comedy and speeches spoken in Indonesian. The advertised fire show lasts about 15 seconds, and is surprisingly underwhelming.
The arena is packed full of people, don't expect to be comfortable during the show, tons of people pressing against you from all directions.

We spent a total of 400K for 2 people, to get access to the ticket place and the "show"...
If you are considering going here as non Indonesian speaking tourist, don't bother, really not worth the time and money.

A very popular place to visit. Beautiful views of many temples. Book your tickets online for the Kecak and fire dance as it books out very quickly although they do have 2 shows a night 6pm and 7pm. Very hot but plenty of shade. Beware of the monkeys they will grab anything like glasses, water, hats and even bags so hold on tight.

Visited the temple and watched Kecak dance in early Dec’22, after reading lot of praise online. The temple is situated on a cliff, and the views from the cliff are definitely very beautiful. Make sure you walk to the end of the path on both sides of the temple for stunning views. Keep an eye out for the monkeys; they will happily snatch sunglasses from your head and anything else of interest that you are holding. If they take something, don’t engage with them yourself and ask a temple guard to help you; guards have sweets that they give to the monkey and monkey drops your object to take 2 sweets at once! The temple praying chamber itself, like many others in Bali, is closed to the public.

On the day we went, tickets to the 6 PM dance performance had sold out in a few mins after they started selling them. My driver said large tour groups buy them in advance directly. However, we found some people selling them in black (without any markup) inside as well. We watched the 7 PM show, and used the one hour before the show to capture sunset photos. It’s held in a moderate size, open air amphitheater (500-1000 people seated at one time), and the ocean is behind the stage. Make sure you get seats in/ around the center of the amphitheater if you want a view of the ocean. The show itself was underwhelming, despite all the hard work by the performers. The sunset is hardly visible from the location, and the continous “kac kac” (p.s. the dance is named for this) from the performers seemed to distract from the plot.

Summary - Watch it to cross it off your Bali list, but moderate your expectations.

We arrived at 4:00 p.m. thinking of being able to visit the temple before going to the show, as we wanted to be sure to see the show and given the queue we did it too, and the big thing 2 sessions are offered at 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. but in front of everyone we are advised to queue to get the best seats, everyone is mixed and they let people in with 5 p.m. tickets and 6 p.m. tickets, in the end we were seated at 4:45 p.m. for a show at 6 p.m., some probably had to wait for the 7 p.m. session that followed. So the visit to the temple was done quickly since it was dark. As for the monkeys, be careful, it's finally difficult to leave given the queue to get out 1h30 for 10 km to go to the Hotel

The temple complex is impressive with a nice cliff side walk and Hindu temple. The entrance fee is Rp50,000 and sarongs are provided at no charge if you need to cover up your legs. There are a few sections along the walk where the monkeys can get aggressive. Be careful to secure any loose items like glasses, hats, and cell phones. Otherwise you could end up having them taken by the monkeys. We also booked tickets for the Kecak Fire Dance. You can buy them on site for Rp150,000. I purchased mine online at Klook for Rp140,000 and the e-tickets were delivered right to my phone. This way you can bypass the on-site lineup. I recommend going there an hour before it starts if you want to get a good seat. You are given a synopsis as you enter the theatre so you can understand what is happening. The Kecak Fire and dance was a very good show with an incredible backdrop as the sunsets over the cliff. When the show ends, there is a mass exodus of people. So be sure to have pre-arranged transportation out of the area. We had a great experience at Uluwatu temple and would highly recommend it.
