The weekend we picked for our visit turned out to be a Heritage Event. Unfortunately the steam train was in for refurbishment, but the vintage diesel train kept us happy. We travelled down the line (in First Class of course) from Stanhope to Bishop Auckland...More

Last december we had booked up to see The Polar Express, and it was fantastic! We even went in our PJ's for the full experience 😊. The cast were incredible actors/actresses and the dancing was brill!. Felt like we were on the actual Polar Express....More

I came here just purely on the spur of the moment. Lovely little cafe was the first stop with excellent bacon butties and pots of tea- always a good way to start any day out! Tickets are £14 pound return for adults, not sure on...More

A leisurely ride through wonderfully pretty countryside, stopping at interesting places well supplied with pubs, walks etc.

Did the return trip to Witton le Wear, accompanied by our 2 dogs - not so sure they enjoyed it but we certainly did! Nice to see the local countryside from a different perspective. Staff very enthusiastic about their project & should be proud of...More

The Train to Christmas Town was nothing like as good as we expected, having previously enjoyed the Polar Express. The entertainment was amateurish, the hot chocolate tasted of cardboard and the medal given out by Santa was cheap and tatty. Altogether a disappointing but very...More

I'd heard that the train to Christmas Town was magical and the experience exceeded expectations. A small group of us (adults and children) booked first class. I didn't know what to expect and was extremely pleased with the experience. Dancing elves, a couple of train...More

Firstly, I attended one of these events in December 2016, The Polar Express in Dartmoor (run by the same company). That visit was amazing, which is why this year we wanted to book, but at Weardale so we could take the grandparents too (7 of...More

Do not waste your money or disappoint your children. There is no steam train, the music and storey telling are ridiculous, the hot chocolate was warm and tasteless, Christmas town looked cheap,. Worst of all Santa gives a plastic medal in a plastic box. No...More

A huge expensive mistake to make: pick somewhere else instead (we wish we had!) We were really disappointed with The Train to Christmas Town from Weardale. Like others have said, we couldn’t hear a word of the story, the elves and helpers on the train...More

hello, I was in the standard carriage and it was good, I think the premium seats give you a little bit more room and you receive a present from Santa, so can't really comment but all I know is we all had a great time.
