The 1.5km road to get there is a little interesting, high clearance vehicle is preferable. BUT once you get to the top of the road, it is all worth! Really lovely picnic spot and goats all round are super fun. View is also spectacular.

We visited this hidden gem on a rainy Friday. Drove 1,5 km on the small road leading from the main road. To find this little piece of Switzerland in South Africa. Fran welcomed us and made us feel at home with a private cheese tasting. The small but quaint shop was fully stocked with delicious home made treats. We bought a lovely cheese platter, home made cookies and delicatessen. The children also got the opportunity to feed the goats. What a family treat. I would wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Swissland Cheese.

We visited Swissland Cheese over the weekend of 12 September 2020. Our first weekend away after "lock-down"... After surviving the terrible road up the hill, we had some fun feeding the goats. We wanted to sample some cheese at the small shop and have a picnic under the trees. The lady in attendance was very reluctant to offer us tasters, as she was busy serving other visitors and did not want us to hold up the queue. She handed us over to a colleague, who was a tad more friendly. We eventually opted for a pre--packed box of goodies (Melba Toast, Chicken Liver Pate', some crackers, jam, salami and a selection of cheese), which was the only one available. I believe they should have had more of a variety, in anticipation of a busy weekend. However, that aside, we spent the afternoon having a picnic on the sprawling lawns, under the trees, savouring the views and the serenity of the location. Our box of goodies turned out to be devine! There were quite a few other people present, but there was anough space for everyone to chill and unwind. Had the service at the shop not been lack-lustre, I would have rated our visit as excellent, however customer service plays a big part in the impression gained from an establishment. This is definitely a place to visit and a real hidden gem in the Midlands.

It is quite a drive from the main road to get to Swissland Cheese, but the chance to have a picnic and enjoy their delicious deli products, especially their icecream, makes it worth it.

Its nice and tranquil up in the hillside. There is the option to build your own picnic from the different cheeses, crackers, jams and preserves they sell, which you can then take with a blanket and enjoy on the large grass area. There are goats that you can interact with, including feeding them. Great variety of cheeses, ice-cream, cheesecake and other products. Definitely worth the bumpy road you have to take to get to them.
