About
A community run farmer's and craft market, this is one of the best shopping experiences in Zululand. It is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Local women have established a large produce and craft market, getting their merchandise from established vegetable gardens and African craftsemn and selling in order to support their families and send their children to school.

A great place to stop off at , to break your journey. Quite a wide variety of items for sale and very reasonably priced. A very good community project.

Loads of variety we allways stop here
Jul 2019 • Couples
Loads of variety of crafts available. Only problem is some crafts are allways covered closed and some is very dusty. We love to stop here annually when we go to hluhluwe. The only downside is the staff are never prepared to negotiate any discount when you pay, and they are not cheap, so we allways end up putting something back, it is really sad though.

Lots of local crafts and great smelling pineapple
May 2019
Doesn't look like much from the front, except lots of fruit. But many locals shop here as well as tourists. Many wonderful crafts and curios in the many stalls in the back. The ladies are lovely and prices are set, so there's no haggling for prices or competing for your attention & tourist dollars. It's a bit dusty from the dry area. But t's a fun place to browse and the best prices for all your African gift desires. We bought some great wooden and beaded items.WE felt totally safe here!

Our favorite craft market
May 2019 • Couples
We have found so many excellent pieces at Zamimpilo. There are many artists whose work is sold here, supporting the local community. Spend a while checking out the many, many tables of crafts. There is excellent fruit as well. We always buy more than we think we will, so be sure to have plenty of cash. Don’t miss it!

Interesting place to visit

Some nice things, made locally I assume. All quite similar, all looked like they had been there a while. But felt a bit fake for tourists as there were nicer versions of many of the things at the airport, for same or lower price. Fruit and veg smelt and looked great.

Great place for Zulu crafts
Jul 2018 • Friends
Conveniently situated along the N2, this place offers a huge variety of crafts. The prices are great, too! This is very well worth a stop for at least 45 minutes.

Bring your rand here for fantastic buys

Definitely stop at the market. The produce is in front, so you might miss the market if you're not watching out for it. There are lots of stalls selling handmade Zulu curios at the back at great prices. You don't bargain here, as the individual owners are not present, but then the prices are so good you don't need to. Cash only. You also pay to use the facilities here.

Great variety.

Vast variety of crafts from near and far, from outside South Africa as well. Reasonable prices, some of the local produce seemed rather pricey.
A pleasant change was a central paypoint so that one is not harassed when browsing but left in peace to browse at leisure.
Good place to buy gifts.

Great Pineapples!
May 2018 • Family
This market is perfectly situated on the N2 for tourists to stop and enjoy the curios and fruit on offer. However, it needs to get with the times and start accepting card payments and or Zapper. Also, it would be nice if they could showcase the different curios and art rather than having so many hidden behind dusty cupboards and stands. Since there aren't many public restrooms in the are, it could be great to make sure that the bathrooms are in working order with working water.

The location and size of this market has HUGE potential. They should consider making it more like a farm stall and stock biltong, jams, pies and food to better serve the people stopping by to purchase items.

However, if you do want fresh pineapples, make sure to stop as you won't find fresher or tastier ones or less expensive ones in South Africa.

Great Craft Market!
Jul 2017 • Family
I accompanied 16 high school students (and 2 teachers) from St. Louis, MO to South Africa in June/July 2017. On our way to Phinda Private Game Reserve from Durban, Zamimpilo Community Market was a great place to stop for the students to purchase souvenirs to take home! Huge variety - anything/everything could be purchased here! Excellent prices! Fun atmosphere. And I highly recommend the freshly prepared Pineapple "on a stick" - We all had these as a snack as we continued on our journey. (Make sure you have paper towels/hand wipes handy!)
