Beautiful and calming walk on the West Coast. It's about an 1-1.5 hours long depending on how fast you want to walk, through a beautiful rainforest and parallel to a lovely bubbling creek. The ground is softly undulating but not difficult at all to navigate....More

The young lady at the information centre in Greymouth had told us that Coal Creek Falls was worth a visit. The turn off to the falls is about half way through the town of Runanga, the second road on the right from the Greymouth end....More

If you drive from Greymouth on Highway 6 towards Westport/Nelson, about 8 kilometers out of Greymouth on the highway, you will see signs to a town named "Runanga"; a series of signs will show directions towards the coal creek waterfall track. Follow the road and...More

We're not trekkers so particularly enjoyed the hour return reasonably paced walk. Heavy rain the previous day made parts of the track a little soft but still easy to negotiate. The bonus of rain was a thunderous, wide (not high) waterfall into the tannin coloured...More

A unique waterfall in a gentle walk through bush by the river. A good stop if you have time on the way North of South. Not far out of Greymouth.

It is an easy walk, along a clearly defined track through some stunning woodland. Follow the track to the end (don't get fooled by the first small waterfall you see). The coal creek falls are impressive especially after rainfall. Well worth the trip. Took about...More

We walked the easy track for 20? mins to the waterfalls and it was pleasant. Nice bush with bird song (surprise, surprise) and the falls were in good form as it had rained two days before. Easy walk.
