A family owned and run farm, in a beautiful setting. Kloovenburg is deeply authentic and the you can feel the traditional Afrikaans hospitality as it informs all that is done on the farm - from wines to savour, olives and olive oil to die for, and even some local creams for looking after your body. The Swartland has a unique feel and the farm is close to the vibrant town of Riebeek Kasteel which is full of lovely restaurants, art galleries and more - great for a weekend away. Kloovenburg has some accommodation too. Try it out, you might even get lucky and spot one of the famous rugby playing Du Toit children!

A visit to Riebeek-Kasteel led us to the Kloovenburg Wine and Olive Estate. The atmosphere was warm and inviting as were the hosts, including a friendly greeting from one of the du Toit brothers. This Estate has been owned by generations of the du Toit family of past and present (and likely future) rugby fame. This added a special touch and we were able to pause and engage with the main task at hand which was enjoying the wine and yummy choice of olives and condiments to taste. I left with a bottle of sweet black olives (my choice) and a liter of delectable olive oil which I later drizzled over hot Ciabatta bread. Everyone tasting it said it was the best! Let’s not forget the wine, the Chardonnay and Merlot cultivars were my particular choice of this Estate. The wines are generally rated highly. A very worthwhile visit to the eclectic little town and the pearl called Kloovenburg. For anyone prepared to drive a little further its definitely worth a trip for those keen for something unique and different rather than focusing only on the traditional wine farm outings to Paarl and Stellenbosch.

Nice wine. Even though you sit down with your wines, you then have to go back to the counter for the rest. Not a tutored tasting, just read what if says on the paper.... Think they fall back on the publicity their Springbok playing son creates ?? Really??? Olive tasting waste of money! Can taste triple the amount of products for FREE, 300m further down the road at Het Vlock Kasteel. Better wines at Saronsberg with better service

Unfortunately no wine tasting due to lockdown.

Shared the Farmer's pizza with my betterhalf, it was really great tasting and well filled. The grape juice complimented ot, and it is a great setting under the huge trees.

Lots of kiddies around having great fun.

Decor and setting beautiful and wine good unfortunately staff let the experience down. Wine tasting is self service managed by very unfriendly staff who when asked questions about the wine replied in a dismissive abrupt manner. Then asked if we could have a cheese platter and were told there no boards and only goats cheese. Service didn’t meet the standard of the setting

Nice friendly atmosphere, staff very helpful and generous. We tried both the eight feet red and white blends, together with some off their delicious pizzas for lunch. Tables are shaded buy some large trees and well spaced out. The owner of the rabbit hole (the cottage where we stayed in Riebeek-Kasteel - said you could let the kids roam free here) As there were no kids with us we roamed free ourselves. They also do a lot of olive and other products grown on the estate, including the obvious olives, but also olive caviar and a sweet dried fig roll which goes well with cheese. Well worth a visit.

We were just enquiring about accommodation but the very friendly and pleasant wine tender offered us a taste of his chilled wine... Well we loved it, first class wines and sparkling wines. Will definitely visit here on a future trip to also taste the olive selection.

What a beautiful estate. We were made to feel completely at home while we sampled excellent wine and olive products. We tried everything available and bought lots because the quality and taste are so good. Love the family feel in the cellar/tasting room. The gentleman who took us thought the tasting was generous with his knowledge and had a great sense of humour. Definitely a place to visit!

A very attractive entrance greets you to this wine and olive estate that dates back to the 1700's. We did both the olive "tasting", which went well beyond olive tasting and the wine tasting. Both staff members were very knowledgeable and gave as much time as you wanted. Their products are great and we had a box of wine and olive products delivered to our home in Johannesburg as a result.

I have last visited Kloovenberg Many years ago so I was very surprised to see today the drastic changes. This once quiet little gem was, has gone through a major transformation into a comercial produce site. Wines and Olive Products are still Top clase in quality but gone are the days of a nice visit to chat and taste the wine and olive offering, often with the owner himself. The place was packed with people inside and outside to maximum capacity. I can't say hundreds of people, but compared to the past - it seemed like it. We all now know that to visit a wine farm, you pay R50 to R80 to taste 3 or 5 or 6 wines, that is the new norm, but I could not believe that at Kloovenberg you have to pay between R15 to R25 PER wine to taste! This has to be paid before you enter and I heard a customer say that, what if he buys wines does the tasting fee then get waivered (as some farms in stellenbosch do - no names), and was told No! Alot of the more expensive wine farms, waiver the tasting fee on a purchase of wine. I'm not sure what has happened to this once beautiful and tranquille visiting site! Today walking in to this once special place was so sad - our wine industry has changed since COVID has happed, why are we locals been treated like tourists in our own winelands. I apologise as no offence to anyone that visit, but your one pound/dollar equals almost R20 rands here so, please when in South Africa enjoy these venues, but I as a local cannot afford those prices and I am surely not in the minority - but these wine farms rely on us when there is no tourists - just a thought ....
