Most Mt. Etna excursions stop at the Silvestri Craters on the lava-covered slopes, but with this exclusive tour you can reach the top of Europe’s highest active volcano with a volcanologist guide. Take a cable car and off-road vehicle to Torre del Filosofo and then continue on foot about a mile (2 kilometers) to the summit craters. Learn about the volcano’s history from your guide and enjoy sweeping views over the coastline.

The castle itself has evidently been closed for several years, and the area immediately around it is in a bad state of repair. The castle lower walls have graffiti on and it seems like a place where people go from the town to do things they'd rather others didn't see. It's a real shame because the view from this spot is probably worth the difficult journey through what I thought was rather an unpleasant and ridiculously busy town (what I saw of it), and past little roads used for flytipping. You get a fantastic view of groves of citrus trees and the other way of Etna. It's quite a large area there for some reason but seems to be used as part of a one way system to get round that part of town. Nearby is a church with an extremely grand pathway up from the town (also shut) and a fascinating cemetery. Some of the mausoleums in there are fantastically elaborate examples of different architectural styles such as art deco and modernist 50s/60s styles. Some even have stained glass. I wish I had been able to look around for longer but I needed the loo and there was simply nowhere nearby open.

It is okay. You can't go in and trash all around it. Don't make a special trip, but see it if you are in Paterno.

Interesting to see, it's a huge walk up hill, but you can't get in. As it's the only thing, apparently, worth seeing, you must do it.

Enjoyable. Need to check current opening hours. Frescoes are nice. also enjoy the plaza outside. Night views of the city and valley.

I was really looking forward to visiting this historic site and had planned to visit primarily to see it. However the castle was not open and there was graffiti everywhere. It was a real pity as it looks so interesting. However to see it on the outside and the views was still enjoyable but there were not any information boards to explain it and no opening times indicated.
