Lago Monticchio piccolo is a truly beautiful lake located in peaceful surroundings. The Abbey overlooking the two lakes provides a stunning setting which complements the peaceful surroundings.

A trip to an extinct volcano (Vulture), two lakes, an Abbey set high on the rim overlooking the lakes.......what could be more idyllic? What could be a perfect day out is marred by a sort of Dantes Inferno of touristy bad taste, dilapidated buildings, overspilling rubbish bins, loud (and different) pop music blaring from neighbouring 'food' stalls, a boat offering trips around the small lake trying to make itself more attractive by featuring a blaring loudspeaker at 100 decibels. On the roads, 4 person bikes set on maiming pedestrians. However, if you can avoid these 'attraction' and make straight for the Abbey you will be rewarded by peace and calm, views across the lakes, an exhibition of models of famous cathedrals, Grottos set into the cliff faces. With luck the noise from the blaring speakers on the lake won't reach you.

Very peaceful, beautiful place! Amazing landscape, fresh air, beautiful lake like a paradise! Good for a picnic or a quite walk with dinner in a restaurant "Il ristorantino" situated close to lake!
