Work a walk
Nov 2019 • Couples
Would recommend a walk from Kommetjie to the lighthouse on the board walk , then go past the lighthouse along the seafront towards the campsite and eventually to a very nice rock pool for a swim

Great boardwalk
Sep 2019 • Couples
The lighthouse was “closed” — guess you can tour it? No biggie for us, we just wanted to see it and take a walk. The boardwalk is great. Right on the ocean. We walked for almost an hour, watching the surfers. Worth a visit.

Kommetjie light house
Sep 2018
It was great to finally go inside something I have seen from afar. There is no real information or guide which would have made the experience more interesting, I do think it is worth a visit though if you're in the area.

Lovely hike along Kommetjie beach and took a picnic, then chilled on the rocks at the lighthouse watching the birds and surfers ride by. Magic!

Beautiful Location

Absolutely stunning, the views are incredible. Took a baby in a carry rucksack and he loved it. Be prepared for lots of steps (obviously) but well worth the effort. Would highly recommend.

Amazing structure and stunning view from the top
Aug 2018 • Friends
A spectacular short walk along the sea front from the town of Kommetjie brings you to the lighthouse. Russell the Assistant Lighthouse Keeper kindly explained the history and structure of the lighthouse. Made of 272 cast iron segments each weighing 500 kg manufactured in England and bolted together on site. The internal view of the structure is amazing in terms of the precision with which the segments were cast and fitted together. The ground floor contains the standby diesel generator and the start of the spiral stairway with 144 steps to the lantern 41 meters above sea level. This is the tallest light house in South Africa. We wondered at the 100 year old brass machinery still in perfect working order. A vertical ladder to the balcony gives the most spectacular views over a storm tossed sea from Hout Bay to Cape Point. Simply breathtaking! Took us two hours including the walk back to Kommetjie. A great visit for two 70 year old codgers who retired to a local drinking hole to toast an amazing structure and stunning views!

Sunset by the Lighthouse
May 2018 • Couples
Wonderful drive from Cape Point to Kommetjie. We made it to the lighthouse as the sun was setting, so we were able to enjoy the amazing sunset, watching the ship travelling across the sea from the harbour.
We also got to the see the lighthouse go on and start it's work for the night. Unfortunately we missed the tours, as they have those during the day in the week.
But still a great visit.

Must do...
Apr 2018 • Couples
What a fabulous experience... Be warned, there are 144 steps to the top but the view is absolutely worth the climb.

For me though, being so close to the lens was also a thrill.

And afterwards, you can walk along the spectacular boardwalk along the edge of the sea.

A lovely place to visit.
