It is said that Monplaisir was Peter the Great's favorite place in the Peterhof palace grounds. It lacks the glitter of the Palace but is charming in a more intimate way, and well worth seeing. The guards were friendly and acted more like docents than...More

Monplaisir Historical Palace is very beautiful. It's extremely well maintained, the gardens and you will just fall in love with it. A must see.

We really enjoyed this museum, it gives you a real indication of how the royal family lived ( in a more modest version of the main palace)

Although we did not go in on our tour, it was very impressive from the exterior. To understand that Peter The Great designed it was really awesome. He also love tricking his guest with fountains that sprayed them when seated in nice and quiet places....More

It is strange enough to learn that the small red building by the seaside was designed by Peter the Great. Perhaps the dwelling is near to the seaside that enabled the Csar to enjoy the beautiful views there apart from the nice garden on the...More

In contrast to the enormous main palace, Monplaisir is a human-size cozy building. It was less damaged than the big palace during world war 2 and contains much more original materials such as the dutch pavings. One side faces the gardens, the other the sea.

I visited Peter the Great's favorite palace. It is very different from the grandiose glittering palaces. Rather simple with small rooms, it could best be described as cozy. Peter the Great visited Holland and loved the Dutch kitchens and this kitchen was copied after them....More
