The best in the area. This cellar is totally stunning. The tours are a wonderful experience - the right mix of some information without being boring. The ambiance was delightful.

The wonderful sparkling wines are not well known in the US so it was fantastic to become acquainted with them.

We had a very nice visit to the wine cellars and tasting. The lovely guide (smaller local lady) could answer all questions the group had and gave a perfect tour and explanation of the wine making proces.

This is a great place to visit during a rainy day. Nice winery were you can learn a bit about wine making and have a nice tasting at the end of the tour. The tour is very informative.
You can park in the city centre and walk the last few 100 metres since there are not too many parking spots around the entrance of the winery. Nice cellars and an incredible amount of bottle you will see during the tour, experience yourself

We booked a tour and tasting here and had the best time! Fabio was our tour guide, and there was one other couple and a group of 4 others with us. The cellars are spectacular, and it was very cool to learn about the wine making and aging process. Fabio was very knowledgeable and passionate about his job, which made the tour so informative and the tasting after a blast! We tried 3 different sparkling wines, as well a few other specialty products from Contratto. Served with cheese, breadsticks, salami, and hazelnuts, it was a perfect mid-day activity! We will be ordered a few cases of our favorites from the tasting for the holidays here in the US!

As a true bubbles lover, this was a fantastic experience! Having planned absolutely nothing for our honeymoon, we decided to go with the flow and booked an English tour the same day! The tour was lovely, learned a lot and it was so nice to see the steps of how bubbles are made! The bubbles tasting was great accompanied by tasty snacks! Highly recommend to bubbles lovers 🥂

We had a fabulous tour and wine tasting here on my birthday. My husband organized it in advance, I always recommend to do this for all wineries. Our group at 2 PM happened to be small- it was only us and another couple. But the Italian group was much bigger. Elena, our guide, was nice and informative. She showed us the impressive cellars, told us the history of the winery and explained the method of making their sparkling wine. I liked the fact that they are still turning bottles and doing the rest of the work manually. I fell in love with label designs on the bottles, beautiful work of an Italian artist influenced by French art deco style. During the tasting we tried the exquisite bubbles. There were supposed to be three kinds of spumante but Elena also brought a sweet moscato that we appreciated a lot. The snacks were minimal but all splendid! I really loved grissini (said to be made for Contratto by a two Michelin star restaurant) and salty hazelnuts! Yum! Cheese and cooked salami were also delicious! At the end we purchased a bottle for ourselves. I can’t wait to open it! Wish we bought all!!!

What a fabulous cantina and tour. The building is amazing and our tour guide was very informative about the history of Contratto as well as the wines they produce. It's amazing to see the incredible number of bottles stored in the cellar. After our tour we had a very nice wine tasting along with some finger food. This tour is well worth the time.

Located in a charming medieval town, this is a large operation housed in an historical building. The tour of the winery is quite impressive, in part because of the magnitude of each component. It's quite imposing to look at one million bottles of sparkling wine, especially when you realize that is less than a year's worth of the output of Contratto. The quality of the sparkling wine, which comes in various categories and degrees of dryness, is outstanding and compares favorably to good Prosecco and Franciacorta. The three types of Vermouth produced are rich, herbal and delightful to drink alone: I can only imagine how they would enrich a cocktail.

We stopped in for for the tour and tasting and it was really great. Our guide was very knowledgable and passionate about their sparkling wines. The tasting was very nice and they served cheese, salami, hazelnuts, bread stick and bread with olive oil for the 3 tastings. I like the wine so much that I bought s bottle along with the hazel nuts. The wines are pricey due to the years it takes to make them.

If you appreciate the history and traditions of the some of the world's finest sparkling wine, Still wines, bitters, and vermouths then you must put Contratto on your list while in Piedmont. Tucked deep in the small town of Canelli 40 meters underground, you'll find the enchanting Contratto winery. Easy to book through email or by mobile phone. You don't need to pay until after the tour.

Contratto is focused on vintage or "mellesimato". The don't compromise quality to release non-vintage wines. Consequently, of the 1.1 Million bottles you'll see stored underground , only 200,000 get released each year.

The bitters, fernet, and vermouth adhere to old school recipes and never try to adjust to generational tastes or preferences over time. This is what I like most about Contratto products.

The tour itself was incredibly informative and took 2 hours. It ended with an incredible tasting of three vintage sparkling along with some local meat, cheese, bread and olio. To my delight they brought out the aperitifs at my request. This was over and above and greatly appreciated.

You can reach Contratto in Canelli by regional train or enjoy the stunning picturesque drive by car easily through the barolo countryside as we did. Highly recommend this world class establishment. See posted photos to truly get a sense of the beauty here.
