About
Welcome at Topiary Wines, a Franschhoek-based winery owned and run by world-acclaimed Burgundy producer Philippe COLIN (from Chassagne-Montrachet). Topiary Wines, a Franschhoek-based winery owned and run by world-acclaimed Burgundy producer Philippe COLIN (from Chassagne-Montrachet). Mr. Philippe COLIN bought the estate over 4 years ago, and has been making all endeavours even since to craft fruity and elegant wines from the 50 acres planted in wines (out of a total property of 160 acres). We are actually the only French managed estate in Franschhoek. Syrah, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Chardonnay grapes are grown here. We also now produce a Rose from Syrah, and even a Syrah-Cabernet Sauvignon Blend. We are proud of getting good reviews by British writer Tim Atkin and 4.5 stars from Platter’s for our 2017 Chardonnay. Our wines already sell in the US, the UK, Norway, Germany and more.

Just returned from an excellent lunch at Topiary today. Hari is an exceptional host and chef, and made us feel most welcome.

Food, presentation and service were excellent as well as the wine selection. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating in a cosy, relaxed atmosphere, overlooking Franschhoek and Stellenbosch mountains.

Highly recommend the Steak tartar, crayfish bisque and Arancini, but will go back to try more of the menu.

Well worth popping in to this hidden gem of Franschhoek.

Enjoying a wine tasting there with a delicious meal is on every to-do list when in Franschhoek or Stellenbosch, the stunning location with the magnificent view of the mountains make the wines even more of a treat.
We will definitely be back when we are in the region again. Then we will also take a room there.

Philippe the owner is down to earth. And lovely. Nash the Sommelier and Head Chef (I know!) is a classic. And so enthusiastic! The food and wine are excellent. This is not a tourist trap. It is authentic and reasonable and fun to visit. You leave thinking how wonderful your visit was and how reasonably priced. Rare in the Franschhoek area these days. Quality, value, satisfaction.
I pray it retains its charm.

We have been driving past this estate for years and have witnessed the planting of vines and the growth of this new vineyard. Today we popped in after a quick trip to Paarl. We were greeted by a lovely young guy Nash who enthused about the wine and as we then discovered he is also the chef! We enjoyed a dozen oysters and a glass of Chardonnay. Both were excellent. We will definitely be coming back for lunch. Nash will also cook dinner for your small group if you would like in the evening. How amazing is that! What we loved about Topairy is the simplicity and friendliness of the place. We met the French owner Philippe who together with his wife have planted the vines and are making excellent wine at excellent prices. To be honest we have lived in the Franscchoek valley for over 20 years although with time spent away. We have witnessed the rapid expansion and to some extent the exploitation of tourists over the years especially by some of the older more established wine estates. How refreshing it is to discover this little gem that snuggles rather quietly on mountainside just off the Franschhoek to Paarl road. Highly recommend the Chardonnay and the red blend Innocence. We will try their MCC this evening!

During our recent visit to Franschhoek we had the good fortune to visit Hari Kitchen at Topiary. Having booked for a lunch pairing for five adults we arrived for our meal. To say that the experience was superb may even be underselling it. Fantastic wine from the vineyard superbly paired with oysters pork and dessert. We were made most welcome and guided through our meal by chef Nash. We were amazed that a restaurant of this standard was not already a must for anyone’s visit to Franschhoek. If we ever needed a reason to return to Franschhoek this would give us one.

Charming bungalow with a nice view over the winery. Close to Franschhoek and Paarl. Stretchers next to the pool would be easy.
