The alpine road from Malta up to the dam is typical of Austrian mountain roads - very twisty with multiple hairpins and several tunnels. There is a charge to go up it but it is free if you have a Karten card from your accommodation.

my most important recomendation is: let somebody else drive! it is impossible to enjoy the scinary and drive without missing one of the curvse. at the end of the way there is a great surprise
