Peaceful interlude
Jul 2019 • Couples
The Abbey is beautiful and the Gregorian chants are uplifting. Whether or not you are religious, listening to the monks is a spiritual experience. We attended at 9:30 am. There were not too many people, and there was ample parking.
There is also a very nice gift shop where you can purchase a variety of products, some produced at the Abbey itself. Well worth the trip.

Latin mass on May 1st!
May 2018 • Couples
Who would have imagined that between les Dentelles de Montmirail and Mt. Ventoux, there would be two abbeys hidden away in two different valleys! Great morning of discovery! Altogether a five hour drive out and about from Orange including a one and three quarter hour Latin, sung mass at the Abbey....and time in the lovely boutique/bookstore, this trip was a pleasure driving completely around les Dentelles. Beautiful drive. Beautiful day in spite of rain. Learned that what I thought were distracting haircuts were....tonsured! Glorious chant music in a great, old building (cornerstone says MCMLXXX—1980!) we will return!

A must visit for High Mass while in Southern France
Aug 2017 • Family
High mass was amazing. I'm not Catholic but the chanting and tradition was amazing. If you're a believer I highly recommend it.

The abbey was very dark, with only a light on the cross. There were no candles and no people, no music , no sound. Outside it was clean and sober. Not a special place to visit.

Gregorian Chants in a beautiful abbey
Oct 2016 • Friends
To go there for other reasons may not be as interesting or fulfilling, but if you go for the high mass on Sunday, many of the locals are there and the ceremony, solemnity, and beauty of the Gregorian chants sung by the monks is unlike other masses. It is very formal and structured with the Gregorian chants mixed with Latin and French for the sermon and gospels. The church itself, a relatively new structure, is beautiful in its simplicity, the alter being particularly so with its muted colors used to depict the 12 apostles and the small stained glass windows. Without anyone else in the church, it was a very peaceful and contemplative space. When the monks sang, the shape of the ceiling helped to amplify their voices which seemed quietly sung but loud enough to hear from anywhere in the church. We have been there a couple of times in recent years and enjoyed it. Like most monasteries, it has a "gift shop" - it helps with the finances.

If you go there on a weekday, you will probably see the monks working in the fields, driving a tractor or working on the roads. These are men who have decided to live this life of silence, work, and prayer. And the monastery offers an opportunity to get a glimpse of this simple life.

Ghastly
Sep 2015 • Friends
A place of horror, at least for me! There's almost a municipal feel to this carefully quiet order of monks, and an eerie chilliness to the place, when not a theatrical religiosity. Ghastly. But, that said, a beautiful abbey building, even if surrounded by car parks and oddly 'municipal' notices.
