The salt pans spread over many acres. Bird hides are provided at strategic locations around the pans. Entry and use of the hides is completely free of charge. There is absolutely no commercialisation here at all. A fantastic opportunity to view the birds in peace....More

Nice little area to watch birds, but you need to have binoculars to see anything up close as the road is set back from the water. A few little huts to watch the birds from. an added bonus when you're travelling round the island.

Lots of fields to grow salt from sea water. Lots of animals (birds) and shells. In the shallow water I saw a seahorse and a frong

This is one of the best places on the island to watch birds. View from the 3 hides or the roads around the pans

First class birding location: extensive and large variety of habitats. Beware though: take PLENTY of water as there is no cover and the heat can be intense. Best bet very early morning.

We've been going to Skala Kalloni on and off for a number of years but this is the first time we have actually visited the salt pans. Although migration was complete there were some interesting birds - flamingos, stilts, storks

We were driving past these very interesting 'salt pans' and weren't at first sue what it was. Then realized that it was indeed a salt collection area.
