Lovely walk over the dam and around the reservoir. Plenty of free parking . Nice café there too open Wed-Sunday provide maps of the walks . The owners provide Indonesian food pre booked in advance for lunch. Worth a visit

Just amazing and a walk for as long as you like. Just be careful on first bit over the other side of the dam as it is a drop of about 300 feet straight down. No health and safety here.

Although we didn’t actually get right down to the dam the views to it from the top road were stunning. The area all around here is lovely and well worth a car tour. We went from Alvor up into the hills to the dam, then down west to the little coastal road, passing a great wetland area with good path down the side, which we walked in our eternal search again for the elusive purple gallinule!

I always wondered what the source of water is for irrigating the orange trees that grow in abundance in Odiaxere and Arao. I did some research and saw on Google Maps the nearest dam to these towns, the Barragem da Bravura. It was actually a pleasant surprise to see that this is an ideal place for hiking. There is a parking area close to a cafe and from there, you can access the trailhead that leads down to the concrete dam itself.

If you want to do an all-day hike, this trail would be it. Be sure to take lots of water and food. You can also have a fruit dessert afterwards ... there are lots of medronho trees in the area. They are so sweet and juicy when dark red.

We have visited Barragem de Bravura two or three times in the last 6 months. It is a great place to walk with a solid path around the lake and reasonably gently inclines. On the most recent visit the water was incredibly low, which is not surprising considering this is the 6th year of drought.
There are several access points and even a café, although it has never been open while we've been there.

The view from under the trees is offered to the people that get on picnic. You stay around your picnic and enjoy the view while eating. I have done it several times at different periods of the year and it is always calm like the country outside of the beaches.

We decided to try this place today as the weather is unsettled. We asked Google Maps to give us directions from Meia Praia and we were presented with 3 options. We chose the quickest one. All was well as it took us through Odiáxere and then north of the N125. As we followed the directions we became increasingly worried as the road became more and more irregular, and potholes started to be encountered. We should have heeded our alarm bells when the Google lady told us to turn left - up an obvious dirt track. Surely she must have been wrong so we continued straight on. After all the route would be recalculated! As we progressed, we saw a sign or two for the Barragem, so on we pressed despite the ever increasing potholes - and then the tarmac surface completely disappeared to be replaced by hardcore. Undaunted we resolutely pushed on. "Turn Left" the nice sounding lady said. 'OK! The road is a track but maybe she is correct'. So on we go, - through the woods! At least we can see the lake! "Turn Left"! Uh Where? The road is a mud track - and it ascends at 45 degrees. OK, we quit! So somehow we do a nifty three point turn and drive back to Odiáxere where I remap the route to go along the N125-9. That route was not even given as an option!
When we eventually got to the dam, it was very picturesque, but to get the best out of your trip you should be ready to do some serious cross country walking. There is at least a restaurant so you could grab some food - or take along a picnic to enjoy as you take in the scenery.
It was a fun (and adventurous ) few hours out, but I will not trust Google Map directions again without examining the route in street view.

easy journey out of lagos (15mins drive). follow signs for BARRAGEM at main traffic lights in Odiaxere (turn off left) and its a very easy drive to the dam. Lovely fresh water - amazing to do some wild swimming in, or indeed bring your own SUP. No motor boats allowed though. Long way to walk around - as the lake has "legs" all around and this walk would take many many hours.....and as its totally natural you will not find any cafes along the way so be warned....best to turn back :)
Stunning setting for enjoying nature , peace and tranquility and take plenty of water/picnic with you :)

Decided to go for a drive and walk yesterday morning. Came across this wonderful reservoir about 15 minutes drive outside Lagos. I had previously seen the signs in Odiexere and decided to follow.
Came to a what looked a quaint restaurant called Hello/Goodbye. First thoughts were we are not wanted here, but nothing could be further from the through. Very hospitable and good prices. Best advice given by the owner, if your are walking the reservoir, take plenty of water,
Walked across top of dam wall, stopped to watch young American teenagers diving off the dam wall into the clear blue water some 40 foot below. Either foolish or the hot sun had scrambled their brains. Walk around the reservoir surrounded by eucalyptus trees was delightful and took approx. 8 hours.
Only saw 4other walkers and 2cyclists in the time. Saw 1 fisherman under his umbrella.
The walk was not to difficult, fairly solid underneath on an approved walkway. Didn't come accross many flies, possibly time of year, and saw a few lizards and birds.
Thoroughly recommend this walk to anyone, however take plenty of water and have a reasonable level of fitness and stamina.
