Everyone said this would be super touristy, but honestly I loved it. It was full of wildlife. Our guide was great (I can't remember his name, Nochi?). We saw many different birds, wild boars, monkeys and a pit viper snake. There are some beautiful waterfalls too. The bridges are scary but awesome.

The Hanging Bridges ("Puentes Colgantes") represent a "can't miss" attraction in the Arenal area. There is so much to see and so many subtle features of the ecology of this rain forest, that it is a must to book your visit as a professionally-guided tour. We booked our tour through Desafio Adventures and had an amazing experience. The tour consists of a 1.9 mile, mostly level walk on a block-paved trail that also traverses some 27 bridges, some of which are short and fixed, while others are long and slightly swaying. The longest hanging bridge is 97 meters long and 47 meters above the ground. An attendant is stationed at each bridge to ensure that no more than 15 people cross at one time. With the help and explanations of our guide, we saw eyelash vipers, leaf cutter ants, squirrel monkeys, poisonous frogs, and lots of interesting plant life. The hanging bridges are quick and fun to traverse, but it's best to hold onto the cables on the sides and not look down if heights bother you. There are bathrooms and a restaurant at the entrance. There is a possibility of a light shower or mist, so a light parka and walking shoes are appropriate. This was one of our highest rated excursions during our 10-day visit to Costa Rica.

This was an excursion from Princess Cruises. It was a great one! Our guide was very informative and walking through the Costa Rican rain forest was fun! The walk was quite easy and fun. One of my favorites of the cruise. They served us a delicious lunch of chicken, beef or fish with rice and beans! It was excellent!

I see that almost everybody rated this place very highly on tripadvisor. However, I think that is because the people that are most likely to leave reviews on tripadvisor are all also the same demographic of people who are likely to enjoy this place.
First, I'm a little bit biased. The day was cloudy and rainy. However, that is very common for the area around the Hanging Bridges. (They must make a small fortune selling ponchos at the store for $6). I'm not saying this place isn't good, but just not for everyone. I'm more of an adventurer, who regularly does hikes back at home... and that's just what this is, a hike with an occasional bridge crossing... except that they make you pay $24 USD which to me is absolutely absurd (especially when you multiply by a family of 4). At most I would have paid five bucks for it if I could put my own value to it. I would have rated this place higher if I saw more animals, but all we saw was a quick view of some monkeys, which we saw much more of at Manuel Antonio.
In summary:
Good for: Families with kids, older people, people who love nature (e.g. gets excited to see rare insects maybe?), people who don't like or are unable to do the more strenuous Arenal activites..
Not good for: People who have already done similar hikes (either in the Arenal national park, or a guided tour in Manuel Antonio), people who are looking for more adventurous activities, people who are NOT willing to pay $24 for a simple hike with occasional bridges.

The first bridges are exiting you are 15 meters suspended in the air with a beautiful view, but then you realize the next 14 bridges are exactly the same! Also it's a long hike!!
BEWARE: if they try to sell you this trip with a combo visiting fortuna waterfall SKIP this and spend the whole day at the waterfall.
Our tour guide only let us swim for an hour which was sad, since it was the best activity by far.
If you want to see animals go to a sanctuary! We only saw a monkey super far away, and a tiny snake, and trees, trees and more trees. Our TEEN KIDS were not surprised!!!

These amazing bridges were a fabulous way to organize a family trip. We all loved the marvelous walk through the green fantastic nature. You can see the volcano Arenal one of the most cool places to go visit in Costa Rica. I really recommend this trip to take for everyone: couples, family or friends.

We went there on our honeymoon and let us tell u it was beautiful. Try to do the entire tour.
Pros: beautiful place, nice walking, not very expensive.
Cons: even we saw a monkey walking around the bridge we expected to see more animals. It turns the same over every bridge.
You have to visit these bridges. Tip: do not book from your hotel. Will be around $45 and if you have car you just pay the entrance ( around $20)
