This ancient city was covered in a heap of volcanic ash in the late 17th century B.C., preserving it for present-day archaeologists and interested tourists. The site is so well preserved that it is often referred to as the Pompeii of the Aegean.

Between all the beaches and bars, it's a nice distraction to see a true archaeological site, right there on Santorini. Another token of proof that Greece truly oozes culture and history everywhere. The site is nicely laid out, with good descriptions and background information everywhere.

This place was even better than I imagined. We had a guide who walked us through the massive site. The place is incredible. So much to see and learn. You must see this for yourself!

Here is a fascinating place right out of the bronze age. The ruins from 1600 BC are especially interesting, including the toilet and sewer system. Much more to come from this site. In the meantime, you need to see it for yourself.

Very few places in the world can you walk down a street from 18th century B.C.E.. you can walk amongst 4,000 year old buildings and gaze at the active excavations being done at this mind blowing historical site. So much to learn about pre-Minoan civilization...More

We were so glad we included a visit to Akrotiri Archaeological Site on our recent trip to Santorini. It is one of the best preserved ancient settlements in the Aegean. It was settled by the Minoans who sailed from Crete as early as 3,000 B.C....More

Incredibly displayed and incredibly preserved I would say this is a must see on the island. Back in it's heyday it must have been an incredible city and you can still get a feel for this now, 1600 BC and an indoor toilet with a...More

Hi, not sure what the hours are, especially in the "off season". The entry was around 10 Euro a person. You could pay extra for a private tour guide, which can be split with others that speak the same language, even if you... More

I'm not sure about lockers. But you can hire a guide at the ticket booth, (highly recommended) they are all certified guides and speak very good English and other languages.
