The reserve is part of Cape Nature and exemplifies the Klein Karoo. Exceptional silence and magnificent views give a feeling of peace and tranquillity. There are several bird hides and a natural trail with braille guides. Plenty to see for the birding and nature enthusiast along well marked pathways. The rest camp is rather down at heel and as dated as many of the others throughout the country.

We went for a short walk on a fairly hot afternoon- was very pleasant. It’s well maintained clean and clearly sign posted - very reasonably priced

We did not overnight - only made use of the reserve for mtb. Routes are great but the mtb trails can be marked better. Otherwise a great experience to ride the trails.

We booked 2 nights at Vrolijkheid with great expectation but what a disappointment. We had to leave the following morning due to overcrowded guests next door, who drank, roamed and played music all through the night, and were still going when we left at 9. The guest book clearly states “no music or rowdy behaviour” There was no management on this and no security or access control at the gate. Could not enjoy any of the nature and tranquility. Due to this bad experience we can definitely not recommend Cape Nature Parks

We took the 10km hike. The trails are very well signed and we could really an effort to keep the reserve clean and well kept. Also, the self-issue permits are great because you don’t need to wait for a open tome to start hiking.

it's hot up here in the summer but energetic types can go for hikes in this wonderful place or take it more gently by strolling around the lakes and spending time in the bird hides with the opportunity to see an abundance of birdlife....it is really quiet here...we didn't see another human during our time spent here...glorious...

The reserve offers good walks both long and short. The main attraction as far as wild life is concerned is the bird life, which is very special particularly at the bird hides on the two dams.

Great nature reserve to go for a walk, nice options to choose from. Lovely little bird hide to view some birds over the river.

Please be careful when make booking, Cape Nature is extremely strict with their bookings. You can not reschedule anything not even for different weekend. Needless to say the staff friendliness overwhelmed me.

We were 3 families - Grandfather and Grandmother, son and wife, daughter and husband, 5 kids. Arrived Friday afternoon, was met by a very friendly Ronel at the office and unpacked in Rooikat, an old farmstead with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We immediately felt at home, lit the fire and chilled next to the Jacuzzi. Next day we "jacuzzied", walked some of the well maintained hiking paths in the reserve, watched birds from the well maintained bird hides and played some putt-putt and tennis (equipment provided by the Reserve) Then we chilled some more.
