There are 3 Routes Green, Red and Blue

The Green route is free to do but one requires a permit to do the Blue or Red Routes.

The Green route is a figure of 8 so one can do just the bottom or just the top section.
The bottom loop is in a gum and wattle forrest and has sections of soft sand so if fynbos is what you prefer do the top section. The bottom section is however full of twists and turns with no real gradient.
Unfortunately some of the signage is missing and it is easy to loose the trail.
The top section has a little climbing some wonderful views and some nice fynbos.

The Red route is 38km but the map does offer a short cut which we did not take but which I will take next time because the section of the trail that goes past Voorstekraal is appalling. The trail is hard to follow because signage is missing it takes one through gates that you would not expect to have to open and it leads you through a disgusting dump which I am not sure is a formal or an informal dump.
The first section of the Red route leaving Greyson is horrible gum and wattle forrest and then one goes through a nasty section of hakkia before climbing Bakenskop which has nice fynbos but is a very hard climb.
The whole Voorstekraal area is a not only a human dump but also a depressing invasion of alien plants.
Despite the alien invasion and human mess the trail is still nice to ride because there are lovely sections of fynbos and the trail itself is nice to ride.

We did most of the trails and enjoyed them all. Some were more challenging than the others but all were in good shape

The network of trials runs through the historical towns of Bereaville, Genadendal and Greyton and surrounds. There is a trail for most abilities and preferences. The a-frames must be approach with caution. To go down a single track through a canola field is an experience when it feels like the yellow and green is encroaching on you!

We took 3 days off with he purpose of riding the wonderful Greyton trails we had heard about.
we stopped and got a map, it was so disappointing, there are no markers ,its impossible to find the route , what a complete waste of time. we stopped back at the bike shop and spoke with Eric who built the tracks and we were still not able to make head not tail.
will stick to our beautiful Tygerberg tracks that are fantastic and well marked.
if you do decide to do the greyton trails make sure you take someone with you who knows the route as you will get lost for sure.
we cut our stay short and left, won't be back unless proper markings are put up

We stumbled upon Greyton and wow, what a find! We luckily had our bikes with us, we got our passes from Vanilla Cafe, which ended up being really cheap for what you get in return.

The highlight of the trails was Rockhopper Forest, which is another world of fun. It is really flat but full of twists and turns and small obstacles, the trails in the first so well maintained, you can see the recent rake marks, it almost feels like a bicycle maze at times! My husband also did the Bench to Bench route, some of the photos are also of his route.

Thank you for these amazing trails, we loved them so much and will be back!

A choice of several really well maintained and regularly used MTB trails to choose from. Some of these trails are being used for international events so do not miss out.
