The Iceland tourism board really needs to work on their safety barriers, this hike consists of about 200 metal stairs to climb up and on the way up if you're following traditional road rules you are on the inside and you feel quite safe. The...More

Climb of many stairs (metal) up to a beautiful view from the top. It was very windy at the top and on the way down. The crater is visible from the road well before you approach the entrance road to it. A 'must do' stop.

My family and I were driving around and then we saw that it was a “secret” crater there. We stopped and it was definitely worth it! It was stairs all the way up to the crater and it was beautiful to see an old volcano.

If you plan on visiting the Saxholl Crater, be prepared for a hike and watch out on the road because the exit is hard to miss. We were traveling down the highway and we totally missed the path to the crater so we had to...More

This is a fairly easy viewpoint to climb up to if it’s clear. The long flight of shallow metal steps will take less than 10 minutes to climb if you’re moderately mobile and the view of the surrounding countryside, sea and mountains is great unless...More

Just off the road, worth a hike up to the top of the crater for the views, and the rock formations atop the crater.

Impressive staircase takes you at the top to enjoy this old crater and take pictures on the scenic background on both sides. On one side it’s the ice capped mountains and the other side is the ocean. This crater is located in an open land...More

The Saxholl Crater is easily accessible off the road of the far western side of the Snaefellsnes peninsula. There is a parking spot with about 20 spots. To get to the top of the Crater, you climb a bunch of steps. It’s an easy climb.

This lovely crater is quite large and gives a god view of the surrounding area. We have seen bigger craters elsewhere in Iceland however we enjoyed this one. The carpark is good and the steps to the top are great for all, not too hard...More

The crater itself isn’t anything much, however it does offer some amazing views. Beware though: there are quite a few steps to reach the top.
