We completely missed the turn for hiking so finding a desert winery was a happy accident. They salvaged our afternoon and accommodated us with an unscheduled wine tasting. They had plenty of activity options (cheetah feeding, winery tours and variety of tastings). They only make red wine, the assortment of which is impressive for being grown in the desert. The wine wasn’t our favourite, but was still worth the stop.

The road to this place is long and rough but you are rewarded with some nice local produced wine. Don't expect a wine tasting as in the Cape and also the pricing is on the high end. We had a good rest in their "bungalows" without aircon, the rooms are spacious and the bathroom simple. Their dinner was a not spectacular chicken and we combined it with a wine tasting & cheese. Breakfast had a reasonable spread.

This eco venture has everything you could want from a desert location. We had one night and limited time, but in our short window, managed a tour of the fascinating wine estate, complete with a visit to the property’s natural, springs and topped off with tasting and cheese - expertly guided by Dino. We followed this up with sundowners at honey gorge, hosted by Douglas and Karoline who shared their passion for the work of the Naankuse foundation and its various properties and research projects across Namibia. After a tasty dinner (again, experts,t served by Dino)and comfortable night spent in well appointed accommodation, we were treated to a unique encounter with the property’s habituated cheetah’s, made even more special by the insights provided by resident researcher, Douglas. Off the beaten track, but worth every corrugation!

If you take into consideration what it takes to grow vines in an arid region like the Naukluft, you might as well support the Neuras Wine Estate! You cannot expect 5-star wines, but their blends are drinkable and I would suggest you pair that with their cheese platter which is good! The waiter should learn a bit more about wine so the experience will be more worthwhile though...

We stopped at Neuras for a winetasting, for it was a recommedation of one of ours friends. Unfortunately the „tasting“ included only 4 wines (2 white & 2 red), of which 2 weren‘t even from Neuras. If you are used to Stellenbosch & Franshoek tastings, that is not much to offer. Also the taste of the wines was not more than average. At least the cheese platter was quit nice. But for 245 N Doller you can expect more than just 4 sip‘s of wine and some cheese...

Thank You from the Neuras Wine & Wildlife Estate for taking the time to write a review. We have passed all compliments on to given staff and colleagues of the Lodge. We do apologize sincerely for the disappointing experience during the wine tasting, we only produce a limited amount of wine per year and unfortunately our stock was finished thus we used wine form other wineries in Namibia. We look forward to welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards Your Neuras Team
