We joined a tour in French 5 minutes late and appreciated the warm welcome. While the guide spoke French we could follow along with English notes that were informative. At the end of each room the guide gave a brief summary in English. She had some nice stories. There were only 8 in the tour and it was not rushed.

A highly recommended visit to this Chateau in Sully France un which Duchess Magenta still lives. A great guided tour by a very knowledgeable guide!

The chateau visiting experience is advertised as having a guided tour available in both French and English - we have seen this in a number of leaflets to quote “the guided tours make history come alive.”
The entire group who were at the same tour time as us were holiday makers and non French speakers. Unfortunately the guide's attitude to this was well tough and if you can’t understand French that’s your problem.
We were given a google-translated information pack about the rooms (not proof-read though!) to read however the guide wouldn't particularly let us read the information at a comfortable pace, instead the whole tour was rushed and the guide kept talking over in French. I wouldn't call this a guided tour especially when comparing experiences at other chateaux we have visited in the area, most of which, like this chateau, are privately owned.
It's a shame that it is being run like this, particularly that the present of owner is an English speaker and couldn’t care to make it equally welcoming for us the non-French.
There are few other things that could be improved and the no photo rule is perhaps stand-offish. I'm sure if the manager would go around like a visitor for the day it would become apparent what needs to be improved to make the experience more pleasant!

We bicycled 8.6.19 from Autun to the castle. The weather was OK and the chateau as well. The behavior of the guide was ununderstandale. In the guided group there were french visititors and we 18 finns. Our own guide, a very experienced, french culture lover wanted to translate the guides speech, but she denied to give any time for that. She said only here we must be quiet. I am wondering what are the reasons of that kind of behavior!

The chateau and the gardens certainly look more impressive on the photos on the internet than in reality, but this should not detract anyone from visiting the chateau. The condition of the chateau and the grounds highlights the significant financial burden the up keep of these properties places on private owners. We had a guided tour of the interior, which was in French but there were English guide pages available. The chateau and its grounds must have been magnificent 200 years ago. We recommend visiting but lower your expectations of the condition of the property.

We visited this beautiful renaissance chateaux not expecting to see much as there didn't seem to be much on the internet about the interior, but we were amazed to find some incredible history.
The chateau is privately owned, passed down through generations with a connection between Ireland and France. The current owners are doing much to restore it to former glory. To enjoy the interior you have to join a guided tour, do not be put off if you do not speak French as they give you a guide book in your own language (we had English and German on ours).

Sully Chateau is a superb example of a traditional Chateau that looks incredibly impressive from afar, but when you get up close, it is very evident just how challenging it is for the owner to keep on top of the maintenance of such a valuable historic building. Once inside this beautiful Chateau it has a wonderful lived in feeling. Our guide Lourian did a wonderful job of bringing history to life, particularly the rather racy story about how it fell in to the hands of the MacMahon family!
Well done and good luck !

This was the biggest rip off I have experienced in a long time. 4€ for a garden which is not a garden since a long time ago. It is a project on how not to look after nature and see what it does. Completely run down chapel, desastrous garden, unkept woods. It was raining, no one there and we asked whether we were allowed to peep into the inner court. Not possible, we would have had to take the 13€ ticket for a whole tour. If you already have seen castles as you happen to be European and lucky enough to travel, you can skip this one and rather visit Cormatin or one of the other beautiful chateaus in Burgundy.
The idea could be to offer „garden“ and inner court, then one might feel that 4€ are not completely wasted on someone who does not want or cannot keep up with the castle and it’s grounds and calls the whole thing a perm project.

We arrived not knowing that we had choosen a day when the chateau was hosting a special Ferrari anniversary event. Our husbands were in their element with over a 100 Ferrari Sports Cars all lined up looking amazing. Unfortunately because of the high number of guests there was no availability on the guided tour of the Chateau. A lovely lady approached us asking if we would like to join the tour as they had spare places. This was such a lovely thing to be included when they had so many other visitors. It made our day special. The staff were all so friendly from arriving to leaving. We very much enjoyed the guided tour and wandering around the grounds.
