Beautiful architecture of the building, but the logistics to accommodate the public are insufficient. Grouping of customers outside in the rain, access to the castle from the entrance building is on the grass, no traced or stone path to circulate safely, the grass is slippery. The interior is quite shabby and requires significant renovation. This castle would need subsidies to be maintained in good condition. Fortunately our guide knew how to give good information and liven up the group although the presentation is in my opinion a little too focused on the family of the castle and not enough on the architecture itself. Photos of the interior of prohibited rooms.

We were impressed by the visit to this beautiful castle on the Loire. We were given a tour description in German. There were also additional explanatory panels in each room (also in German). Many explanations about life in this period and in a chateau give good insights into life back then. The entire castle is in excellent condition and is worth a visit.

Very pleasant visit with a Guide who knew how to make this little hour of discovery of the interiors of the castle very distracting.
The visit to the outdoors is free and also very pleasant, with some pets you can discover especially in the shaded park.
However, some explanations are lacking on the various buildings located around...

Bonjour Nicolas,
Merci pour vos 5 étoiles et votre retour! Nous sommes toujours ravis de vous lire.
Avez-vous eu un plan du parc à l'accueil? Car sur ce plan des explications y sont inscrites sur les divers édifices.
Belle journée à vous,

Remarkable architectural ensemble which is worth the detour, but the interior is disappointing: few rooms to visit, no access on weekends to the newly restored theater. The spring decoration on the theme of Easter is in very very bad taste (everywhere eggs, chickens and rabbits...very kitsch): it attracts the eye to the detriment of the rest, from the center of the magnificent paved courtyard to the chapel...never seen that! Fortunately the guided tour is interesting.

Fantastic chateau, beautiful shop with wine (!) and a very friendly guide who spoke to us perfectly in English.
The chateau reflects the reality of owning and living in a historic object, so any errors in maintenance are more than forgiven.
The children really enjoyed the rabbit hunt.
Thanks!

We bicycled 8.6.19 from Autun to the castle. The weather was OK and the chateau as well. The behavior of the guide was ununderstandale. In the guided group there were french visititors and we 18 finns. Our own guide, a very experienced, french culture lover wanted to translate the guides speech, but she denied to give any time for that. She said only here we must be quiet. I am wondering what are the reasons of that kind of behavior!

The chateau visiting experience is advertised as having a guided tour available in both French and English - we have seen this in a number of leaflets to quote “the guided tours make history come alive.”
The entire group who were at the same tour time as us were holiday makers and non French speakers. Unfortunately the guide's attitude to this was well tough and if you can’t understand French that’s your problem.
We were given a google-translated information pack about the rooms (not proof-read though!) to read however the guide wouldn't particularly let us read the information at a comfortable pace, instead the whole tour was rushed and the guide kept talking over in French. I wouldn't call this a guided tour especially when comparing experiences at other chateaux we have visited in the area, most of which, like this chateau, are privately owned.
It's a shame that it is being run like this, particularly that the present of owner is an English speaker and couldn’t care to make it equally welcoming for us the non-French.
There are few other things that could be improved and the no photo rule is perhaps stand-offish. I'm sure if the manager would go around like a visitor for the day it would become apparent what needs to be improved to make the experience more pleasant!

This was the biggest rip off I have experienced in a long time. 4€ for a garden which is not a garden since a long time ago. It is a project on how not to look after nature and see what it does. Completely run down chapel, desastrous garden, unkept woods. It was raining, no one there and we asked whether we were allowed to peep into the inner court. Not possible, we would have had to take the 13€ ticket for a whole tour. If you already have seen castles as you happen to be European and lucky enough to travel, you can skip this one and rather visit Cormatin or one of the other beautiful chateaus in Burgundy.
The idea could be to offer „garden“ and inner court, then one might feel that 4€ are not completely wasted on someone who does not want or cannot keep up with the castle and it’s grounds and calls the whole thing a perm project.

This chateau is still occupied so they only do guided tours lasting an hour in French. Our guide spoke clearly and slowly enough for me to understand most of what she said. There are translated booklets but I found it difficult to look around, listen and read the guide at the same time. I wonder if it might be possible for non-French visitors to have access to the booklets before they start the tour. The grounds are worth a look around. A cafe was advertised on the website but it did not exist. There is an interesting shop,

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to review us! You can absolutely have the booklets to read after the tour if you like and then return them at the shop before you leave. We do have a small cafe area in the shop. This year we now sell local produce as well. We also have a larger one next to the garden however, due to the lack of interest from our visitors, we had to bring it closer to the shop. We may look to open the big tea room certain days in the summer ! thank you and hope to see you again soon.
