The rock that the Ruffo Castle stands on is the place of legend and lore...because of its location on the Straits of Messina with its dangerous currents the area was referred to as, "a place between a rock and a hard place"! The huge imposing...More

The view is by far and away better than the actual castle, but the castle is interesting as well. That having been said, I didn't really explore it too much; I just went far enough in to take some scenic shots of the beach and...More

There was more to this than we thought. Only €2 each and amazing views! We spent an hour here...beatiful building and the views were stunning.

Except for the beautiful views to the beach on the left and the fishing village on the right, the castle offers little else. No shipwreck tales, no pirates, no battles, no sea monsters, just a fishing exhibition.

Definitely worth a look, give yourself about 30-40mins, don't forget your camera, maybe a zoom lens as well.

Castle gives a nice viewpoint over the Strait of Messina. Make sure to venture down to the coastline (we went to the right hand side, where houses literally touch the sea) and stroll through the narrow but well maintained streets of this nice town.

This castle sits on the rock where the 6-headed sea monster, Scylla, was supposed to have lived...opposite the whirlpool of Charybdis on the Sicilian side of the Straits of Messina. It's not hard to imagine the fear ancient sailors (such as Odysseus) must have had...More

The castle is not full of artefacts and needs a lot of money spending on it, but it is well worth a look . It is only 2 euros, it has fantastic views and is a nice break from a few hours on the beach
