Shiga Kogen is the biggest ski area in Japan, and it has 19 connected ski resorts. The main resort here is Yakebitaiyama that offers various ski trails for all levels on a huge hill covered with “Platinum Snow”. Good parking and easy lift access
Dec 2020
The Prince Hotel West offers good facilities for non-guests and is a good base to explore the whole mountain.

One of our favourites at Shiga
Feb 2020
Whilst the Yakebitaiyama area can be a bit more busy than other areas on the mountain it has nice wide/fast runs. We had lots of groomed powder whilst we were there.

Great Skiing, But Lock your Skis!
Feb 2020
Been skiing Shigakogen for 16 years. This year had my skis stolen outside west wing of Prince Hotel during lunch. We had mixed the skis and separated by some distance but the thief was determined to find the match and my brand new Armada Trace 98 2018 model was stolen. Then found out from staff and policeman that many skis are now stolen so be aware and lock your skis in public places.
On a positive note the grooming, variety etc of Yakebitaiyama and the reliability of the lift system is excellent. recommend during a long stay to save a few dollars some days and purchase yakebi only pass...Gondolas get super busy on weekends though so when organising your trip try to transfer on a Saturday to beat the crowds.

Awesome areas to ski
Jan 2020
A great area to ski. Quite large compared to some of the areas other resorts and a great variation of runs.

May not be the best for older beginners as the green runs can be steeper than other resorts.

Great Ski filed, huge, and no crowds
Dec 2018
We LOVED shiga Kogen and would definitely come again! Heaps of powder, lots of gondola chairlifts and no crowds. There was not a lot in the way of restaurants/bars at night though.

My favourite

We ski here from ichinose. Long runs often with black or red or green alternatives. The cable cars are long and give you. Chance to relax.

Huge ski area with plenty room for learning and exploring!
Feb 2019 • Couples
This area has routes of varying difficulties, and even has cordoned off areas for kids and family fun! Learning to ski or snowboard here has been enjoyable for me over the last few seasons, where i've stayed at the Prince Hotel (Shiga Kogen + Naeba)

Great powder skiing, but the beginner trails are marked wronged they truly are intermediate to expert mixed into it
Jan 2019 • Friends
The trail runs are marked wrong. There are no beginner trails, the beginner trails is a mixed of intermediate and expert mixed into it. The powder skiing and snowboarding here is excellent. Would highly recommend it if you are an intermediate level or a beginner with some experienced. The powder here is forgiving if you fall. Beware also the trails are not marked clearly at the intersection.

Great snow conditions and easy access to lifts . Beautiful onsen looks out to the snow - huge dining hall serves good breakfast and shuttle can get you to several evening restaurants within 3 Klms - Good to stay a few days and include side trip to the snow monkeys

Ski all day long!
Jan 2019 • Family
Absolutely loved our time here, but were very apprehensive on our lesson. The beginner runs near Prince Hotel West are quiet steep for first timers and it took a few days to get enough courage to try again.
Never any wait for the chair lifts/gondolas
