Few people, lots of pow
Dec 2020
A 150 meter walk from the top of Yakebitaiyama Gondola #1 takes you to a quiet Okushiga and its deep, untracked snow. People were laughing in delight as their skis silently swam through.

Only a few runs, but still enjoyable
Mar 2020
We stayed in the Okushiga Kogen Hotel so this was our immediate ski area. There are only a couple of runs so I think it would only be enough for one day (otherwise you should get the ski pass that also covers the Shiga Kogen Ski Area). However the runs are a variety of levels so was good to start and finish our ski day here!

Good steeps, nice food
Feb 2020 • Friends
Great to get away from the majority of ski school kids over at Yakebitaiyama, plus Hotel Phenix was a lovely lounge & bar area to kick back and relax for a lunch break plus a couple beers. The only bummer is is main quad lift shuts regularly due to any type of a sniff of wind which essentially traps you in Okushiga. The only way home is to bus it back over to Gondola 2 at Yake!

Good for Half a day
Feb 2020
There are enough runs here to spend half a day riding them. However this area appears to be the first area affected by wind.

Great wide slopes
Feb 2020
A perfect ski area for learners and experienced skiers. The runs are long and wide with not the crowds. There is also a terrain park which can be a lot of fun. The main black run is wide and groomed. Down near the gondola station are a few great warm spots for hot chocolate or a curry.

Great gondora run.
Feb 2020
The main gondola run is a great one. You can shoot off into the trees. You can take a side track down to the board park. Very nice in the powder. Has another good run on the other side of the gondola. Can ski in and ski out.

great views and nice runs from top of mountain. Mostly green and red (intermediate) runs. Visited Prince Hotel for lunch which had a good selection of food.

Great ski hill, super helpful rental shop
Feb 2020
First time skiing in Japan. Okushiga Kogen is a great “base” to start, the people in the rental shop went above and beyond to find a pair of skis that met my wishes. Very much appreciative of their service.

Laid back firkd
Jan 2020 • Solo
This ski area is tight upwards the end of the shiga kogen ski area. It’s got s ski school which apparently you can sign up to go back country with. Nice laid back area with potentially good tree skiing in powder days. But not this January 2020 season!!

A fun area to ski
Jan 2020
Not the biggest area but a fun area to ski and it has some excellent beginner and more advanced runs, just check the lower chair lift is running on quieter days for beginners.
